O 0 Markets Upward Trend In Stocks Continues NEW YORK, May 29 (UP) Stocks advanced today for the fifth consecutive session, reach ing further new high ground for more than seven years, while commodity prices Improved and listed bonds approached their re cent 30-year mark. Stock market sentiment was bolstered largely by yesterday's oplimistlo view of the reconver sion period taken by WPB Chief J. A. Krug, recent favorable rail road and corporation earnings statements and the moves of a number of companies to reduce their debt and strengthen their capital positions. Sales totaled 1,600,000 shares compared with 1,570,000. "Big board" bond sales aggregated $11,700,000 against $9,780,000. Curb stock turnover amounted to 410,000 shares compared with 360,000. CHICAGO GRAIN CHICAGO, May 29 (UP) A forecast of a sharp decline in the Kansas winter wheat crop stimu lated strong gains in wheat late on the board of trade today. Oth ed grains ruled firm. Active demand for 'cash grain and additional heavy flour sales to the government prompted a strong undertone in wheat. The tremendous European food needs continued to be an underlying bullish factor. Rye overcame early uneasiness prompted by overnight charges that the rye market had been ma nipulated in the past. Distiller demand and the marked reduc tion in rya stocks from a year ago were buoyant influences. PORTLAND LIVESTOCK PORTLAND, Ore., May 29 (UP) Livestock: Cattle 150, calves 35. Vice Admiral Takljlro Onishl, former joint commander of Jap anese army and navy air forces in the Philippines, was named to succeed Ozawa as vice chief of the naval general staff. Domei said quarters close to the navy ministry see signifi cance in the fact that both Ozawa and Onishl are veteran com manders of the fleet air arm. Their appointment, Dome! said, "clearly attests to the iron deter mination of the Japanese navy to stake its all in an all-out offen- aivc iu win iiiiui victory in xnis decisive stage of the war." The emphasis given the nir arms seemed to indicate that with her fleet already crippled, Japan was counting on her air men alone to turn back American assaults.
