Tlllotson Is spending a few days In Portland visiting with friends and taking In the Rose Festi val. To Portland W. T. Grtder left today for Port land to transact business and attend tlie Rose show. Former Residents Yftit Mr. and Mrs. h. T. Hacker, of Al bany, are here, en route to Chicago to Inspect the Century of Progress, making a visit with their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Young. Mr. Hacker waa formerly manager of the Bhell Oil Co.'s Interests In La Grande. To Attend Show ; Mrs. Lily Klmmell left this morn ing for Portland to attend the Rose Festival. Visits Daughter1 Mrs. Besse Geibel, of the city school teaching force, has gone to Portland where ehe will visit her daughter, Besse. The latter, who has been at tending the University of Oregon, Is going to summer school In Portland. Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kllnghommer and daughter, Marjorle, arrived in La Grande yesterday from their home at Durango, Colorado, and will spend two weeks vacation visiting relatives and friends. They are guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L, P. Day. , T Lake Mrs. J. C. Gulling left this after noon for Wallowa Lake where she will spend several days as the guest of Mrs. W. H. Bohnenkamp at her cabin. En Route Home . Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Herrman stopped in La Grande for a short tune yesterday, en route to their home at Baker. They have been on a. honeymoon trip to Victoria. B. C. and stopped here to visit her parents, Mr, and Mrs. W. O. Kelly. Visit Daughter Dr. and Mrs. Herbert S. Brownton drove . to Pomeroy, Wash., Saturday for a visit over the weekend with their daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Ripley and family. At Pendleton they met their son, Wesley who had come that far from Eugene and went on with them to Pomeroy. Returns From Portland Miss Mabel Morton returned this morning from Portland where she had been over the weekend accompany ing Miss Amanda Zabel that far on her trip around the world. To I.ake Mlnuni Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bad g ley, Miss Kate Houx and Miss Eva Wear packed in to the Lake Mlnam early this week and are having a few days outing among the high mountains. Ueturrur Dr. F. L. Ralston has returned from Portland where he spent the weekend transacting business. From Enterprise Mrs. O. W. Castle, of Enterprise, was a visitor here the latter part of last week. During her stay here she received eye treatment. From Medical Springs Patrick J. Powers was a business visitor in La Grande today from his home at Medical Springs where he is manager of the hotel, sanatorium and swimming pool. , From Joseph Mtb. Pete Bowen Is spending a few days here from, her home at Joseph and during her stay here 1b receiving medical attention. past these examinations havB been given for four days, but because of the small number of applicants they will be given for only three days this year. Marriage License Issued A marriage license was Issued yes terday from the office of the county clerk, to Melvln C. Courtney, of Troy, In Wallowa county, and Bethel Flesh, man, of "La Grande. Earl Wagner Injured Word was received here today by Glenn Wagner that his brother, Earl Wagner, of Forest Grove, had been Injured in an auto accident. The ac cident occurred Sunday night. Wagner sustained Injuries to the ex tent of three broken ribs. Son Is Born A baby boy was born last night to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Root of 1612 Adams. The boy arrived at 11:20 p. m. and weighed 6 pounds. Dr. C. L. Gils trap attended. To Portia rfll Miss Margaret .Ross Calllhan, of Union, visited with friends in La Grande today en route to Portland where she will attend the University of Oregon summer school. Returns Home Judge L. Deaham has returned from a short business trip to Portland. Is Here Mr. and Mrs, K. A. Connett ore spending a few days In La Grande on business. Mr. Connett fs superinten dent of the Union Pacific system with headquarters In Portland and Is transacting business here. From Pendleton Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson, of Pendleton, returned yesterday to their home at Pendleton after having spent the weekend here. They came for the wedding of their granddaugh ter, Edna Mae Wilson, to Leslie Kef fer which was an event of Sunday. Teachers' Evumluutlons Planned- Teachers' examinations will be given this week at the court house, according to County School Superin tendent E. A. Sayre. " The examina tions will be given on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and application should be made to Mr. Sayre. In the To Rose Show- Misses Blanche and Anna Mae Whiting, daughters of Mr. and Mrs, E. D. Whiting of the Mt. Glen dis trict, left last 'night for Portland where they will attend the Rose show. lo ,To Oakland Mrs. J. K. Wright, accompanied by her son, Lynne Wright, left yesterday for Oakland, Cal where they expect to make an extended visit with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Vehrs. During the absence of Mr. Wright from the drug store of which he is owner, Herbert Luehrs, who recently was graduated from the department of pharmacy of Oregon State college, is in charge of the prescription Department of the drug store. Mr. Luehrs' home is in Ontario. Prof. Raymond Visits Paul F. Raymond, who has been a member of the faculty of the law school at the University of Oregon, is visiting In La Grande and during his stay Is a guest of Wesley Brownton. Mr, Raymond is very much Impress ed by the grandeur of the surround ing country and he and his host are planning several trips fJnfThg the next few days to Include Wallowa Lake, Mt. Emily, the lake basin, the Imnaha country anil the Snake river.
