When cool, unmold and cut Into burs or slices. ; Potae a la Heine 4 cups white stock, 1 stalk celery. 1 slice onion, tabap. salt, 8 Snow Flake crackers, rolled fine, 2 cups scalded milk, I cup finely chopped cooked chicken, 2 tbspo. butter. Cook stock with celery and seasonings for 20 minutes, and strain. Soak cracker crumbs Jn milk and stir into stock. Add chicken and butter. Bell gently 3 minutes and serve at once. Six portions. Bouillon cubes may be used to make the stock. Sweet Potato Waffles 1-3 cup melted fat, 2 tbsps. sugar, 3 eggs, I cup milk,-30 Snow Flake soda crackers, 1 cup mashed 'sweet potato, 2 taps, bakliig. powder, 1 tap. salt,: & tsp. cinnamon. Cream 'fat with sugar; stir in well-beaten egg yolks and milk. .Add finely rolled crackers, potato, baking powder, salt and cinnamon and-beat well. Fold in stiffly beaten og whites. Bake In liea ted waffle iron until golden brown. Serve dusted' with powdered sugar. Makes 3 waffles, or 12 In dividual services . simply grand as an accompaniment to chicken, duck or turkey. "Did President Hoover, approve the contracts or extensions which, have been in question here and which have been discussed?" Austin asked. Brown said Mr. Hoover had not been familiar with the details, but merely with the "broad outline of policies." , He added he never had discussed the contracts with Mr. Hoover. miliar to everyone. Several student committees are working In the various fields. Miss Jennie Peterson directs the music. Stage direction, lines and make-up are under the supervision of Mlf Florence Day. The dances are being composed and directed toy Miss Marjorie Horton. Miss Thelma Whal ey ts supervising the stage and cos tume designing. Miss Arta Lawrence Is also working with the costume committee.. The Ackerman Training school is under the -supervision of Miss Kate Houx. Ralph Badgley di rects the stage construction, lighting and shifting. John Miller has oharge of all business, publicity, program and ushers. Roy Skeen is coordin ator of the opera. Brown in support of the Pittsburgh Aviation Industries' application for an air mall contract. "Mr. Mellon said that. In reply to numerous letters from friends In ! MAHV JANE McCALL (Contributed) Mrs. Mary Jane McCall passed on Monday, Feb. 10, 1934 at the home oft her daughter, Mrs, Martha Thorp, In the Moss Chapel district. Mary Jane Hudklna was born in Virginia April 30, 1846 and moved with her parents to Carthage, 111., where she spent her life until she was married to William McCall June 33. 1864. To tills union one daugh ter was born, now Mrs. Martha Thorp. In 1885 they moved to Union county an da few years later to Wallowa county where they were located on a homestead and where they spent sev eral years building up a friendship and hospitality that was known throughout their neighborhood. Later they moved to Union county and set tled throe miles from La Grande In the Moss Chapel district where Mr. McCall passed away In 1918. Mrs. McCall was a devoted member of the Methodist church and was a regular attendant until her health failed her several years ago and she was a patient sufferer. 8he had many friends who were Interested and loved to visit with her an! will always re member the generous heart of Grand ma McCall as she was better known to all who knew her In the Grande Rondo valley, and ore high In their p raise and esteem of a respectful neighbor and friend. The following relatives are left to mourn her death, one daughter, Mrs. Martha Thorp; three grandchildren, Mrs. Helen Brlggs, La Grande: Mrs. Ruth Kutchler, of Pomeroy, Wash., Mrs. Mae Taylor, Palo Alto, Cal., and give grandchildren as well as a host of friends. They took refuge on the ice- when their steamer, the Chelluskln, sank while returning from the Island, Feb. 13. First real fears for their safety wero aroused when the government rescue commission at Moscow announced that storms had blocked all efforts to reach them. Food supplies are plentiful, the commission said, but the Ice field was reported to be disintegrating. The fact it was being driven northward by the wind darkened hopes for rescue.
