BASKETBALL TEAMS WILL COME MAR. 8 (Continued From Pago One) voted Tor La Grande and Mr. Gralapp did not vote, although represent ing La Grande he accepted the In vitation to stage the tournament. Previous to the jneetlng, no direct invitations had been extended by either Union or La Grande. Some years ago, La Grande made an effort to get the tournament and was beaten by a large vote, and at that time it was decided here not to make any further effort to get the tournament. This policy has been followed religiously since that time. As a result of staging the tourna ment here. It was necessary to make some changes In sub-dlBtricts. Under the .rules now in vogue, the host team is in a sub -district of Its own and is not required to qualify for the tournament. So La Grande's Tigers, 1933 champions, will defend their title In the 1034 tournament without going through elimination tournaments. The new lineup of sub-districts follow, with their committees: District 1 Union and Wallowa obunties, exclusive of La Grancije. Roy Conkltn, Union, chairman; J. R. King, Imbler, and O. F. Campbell, Wallowa. Three teams to qualify. District 2 La Grande. District 3 Baker and Malheur counties, Mr. Hollenberg and' Mr. ' Coleman. -Four -teams" to qualify. Mr. Gralapp wry appointed as man ager of the championship tourna ment, and the board agreed to con tinue the same play of double elim ination, with consolation finals for third and fourth places, as has been - used In recent years. If an extra game is required to settle the championship, it will be FOR RENT CHEAP 4 room furn. , house, oor. U and Pine streets. Phono 424 W. . -. 1-5-2 tp. 5-ROOM furnished house. Oarage. Drawings for places In the tourna ment will be made as soon as eight teams have qualified. Usually, this drawing takes place the Monday be fore the tournament begins. The question of where and when to stage a sub-district tournament lor Union and Wallowa counties to select three teams for 'the title play, remain in the hands of the commit tee headed by Mr. Contain. . Locally, knowing that Baker Is seeking to convert its natatorlum into a modern, standard size gymnasium, it Is believed that one motive be hind the move to change the tour nament to La Grande- 1b that, when Baker has its gym completed, the plan there would be to alternate with La Grande. : There is no official basis for the above, however, and 'It Is given only as reflecting "street talk" of an un official sort in La Grande today. NIEDERERS IN LOS ANGELES Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Nelderer, of La Grande, who left several days ago for Los Angeles, have arrived at the Cali fornia city, according to word re ceived here.
