FIRES CAUSE 12 DEATHS IN STATE 8ALEM W) Fires claimed 13 lives and injured 128 other persons In Ore gon during the nine-month period ending September 30 of this year, the state Insurance department has an nounced . Property loss amounted to 11,723, -987 from 3,070 fires reported on In sured property. Losses paid were 1, 48B.660. ' -Outside Itultnomah, Coos county was' highest In actual loss with $157,- - W4. Loss In Unn county was 107, 314,' Washington county S07.415 and Klamath county $02,443. Multnomah county's loss was 1450,258. Fires were most numerous In dwellings and outbuildings, 1,877 be ing listed In that class. Matches and careless smokers were blamed for Olfi fires. Hadden, of North Powder, to gether with Fred .Grout, were arrested Oct, 30 charged with possession of untagged venison and with wanton waste of game. They are in jail in lieu of ball, which was set at (100 each. j Dean Dudley, of Athena, entered a not guilty plea to wanton waste of elk meat. Trial will be set later, . Hobart Johnson, arrested with Dudley, Is facing the same charge. He did not appear before the court and a - warrant . has been issued for his ! arrest, state police say.
