There continued a general Increase of offerings from outstate points and even local manufacture was Indicat ing a fractional gain for the weok Instead of the loss of normal periods. Demand for butter remained steady but prices on the open market were unohanged for the day. Best de mand continued for undergrades which did not advance during a late session of the exchange. The completion of tho new high way from Pondosa to Union has brought Pondosa closer to La Grande and the hosts expressed their appre ciation of the work of the La Grande chamber of commerce In promoting the highway. Tho visitors found operations at the mill of extreme Interest. Tho sawmill lias a capacity of 8000 feet an hour and on the basis of two shlftn' full tlmo operation could pro duce 40 million feet per year. The logging Is done cntiroly by truck, a type of logging in which the Pine company was ono of the earliest pio neers many years ago. It Is not universally lower In cost than railroad logging, since it Is pri marily adapted to a topography In volving short haul and steep favor able grades. Occasionally they bring logs down grades as steep as 30 per cent. With their largo trucks they can handle adverse grades very nicety up to 4 per cent. The four and ono half mile main line truck road Is one of tho finest and most expensive of prlvato logging track roads In this country. Orders booked were 3& per cent higher than tho week before. The unfilled order fllo stands at 280.129, 180 feet, a decrease of 6,538,010 feet under tho previous week. .
