' Stops For Week Enroute to East COVE (Special) Lexro Prllllman, who taught in Hills Military acaderriy of Portland during the winter, is now In La Orande with his mother, Mrs. Horry Myers. Mr. PriUiman, Mrs. Myors old Miss Prugcstadt were visi tors at the L. -E. Anderson home In Cove Friday. Lexro was graduated from Oove high school and Is very well known here. He 1s stopping in the volley for about a week after which Me will leave for the east where he will be in charge of a boys' camp during the summer months. He will nlso stop in Chicago to attend the Century of Progress. V Rodents Taking Poisoned Bait WALLOWA (Special) Formers are having excellent success getting large numbers of ground squirrels with poi soned oats. Following the cool, show ery -weather of -lost -week - the rodents are eating the poisoned bait quite readily. In some -places some damage to grain .'crops 'have 'occurred from heavy cutting by the squirrels, ; but with rains coming at this time, seri ous damage -to the crop Is not ex pected, as tho most of it will grow up again and not be far behind the other grain. Some of the larger farm ers in tho Leap and Parsnip creek dis tricts report they liave used as much as 1000 pounds of poisoned grulQ on tlieir farms, since early spring. ENTERPRISE (Special) Another mystery of the killing of a large buck deer was brought to the attention of Oame Warden Gcotbo Rodgers Sun day when such an animal was found dead in on irrigating ditch near the Hurricane school house. The animal had been shot and apparently ran until It fell exhausted into the ditch. It was a fine buck and apparently the Intention had been to kill it for meat but the animal ran too far before the unknown killer could rctrlevo his prey.
