Rodents Taking
Poisoned Bait
WALLOWA (Special) Formers are
having excellent success getting large
numbers of ground squirrels with poi
soned oats. Following the cool, show
ery -weather of -lost -week - the rodents
are eating the poisoned bait quite
readily. In some -places some damage
to grain .'crops 'have 'occurred from
heavy cutting by the squirrels, ; but
with rains coming at this time, seri
ous damage -to the crop Is not ex
pected, as tho most of it will grow
up again and not be far behind the
other grain. Some of the larger farm
ers in tho Leap and Parsnip creek dis
tricts report they liave used as much
as 1000 pounds of poisoned grulQ on
tlieir farms, since early spring.
