Robert Cameron has gone lo Echo lo work this summer In the harvest fields. Mrs. J. E. Wltherspoon returned home Friday after having spent the past month with her mother, Mrs. Virginia Witty In Elgin. The Epworth Leaguers are giving a festival In Elgin Saturday, the pro ceeds to be used to help defray the expenses of the group planning to go to Wallowa Sunday to spend the week at the Epworth' Lenguo Institute. (Special) Prep arations ore being made by many of tho farmers of this section for har vesting their grain crops as cheaply aB possible. i some Instances sev eral men are going together and buy ing small threshing outfits and ex pect to exchange work for their nec essary hRlp In threshing. Many of tho farmers In the hill sections also have combines with which they will cut their own crops and some expect to do some custom cutting. As yet no definite price for combining has hcen set, but. many do not expect it to be more than $1.60 per acre. Mrs. K. W. McKonzie received some very painful bruises lato Saturday evening when she fell down some steps at her home In Riverside addi tion. She was unconscious following the fall and did not come to herself for some four or five hours. Latest reports state that she Is recovering nicely from the bruises at this time. Jack Extine, of Elgin, was d visitor at tho Meek home in Leap during the early part of the week. Henry Lathrop, of Alder Slope, has been busy the past few weeks help ing his uncle, L. W. Lathrop, of Leap, with his summerfallowlng, T. O. Johnson was a business vis itor In the upper end of the valley during the hitter part of the week. Reports from some of tho farmers of this community who have recent ly shipped fat cattle to Portland state that very low returns have been received In many instances. In one Instance a farmer shipped a .carload of part Jcracy cown and young cat tle and received less than $0 per head for the shipment. A .large crowd of people from Va rious parts of the county attended the picnic and dance held at the J-op of the Whiskey Creek hill on the old Flora road July 4th. Two Calif ornians Are Fined $50 In Condon Courts SALEM, Ore., July 14 (Special Lon Cannon, aged 53, and Howon! W. Porter, 39. , both of Loo Angelco. California, were arrested at Condon, Ore., charged with selling insurance without a license, and, upon entering pleas or guilty before Justice of the Peace Dan Plorey, were fined $50 each und court costs. The arrest was mad-3 by State Patrolman Walter fl. Walker and District Attorney Oliver Crowther filed the complaint.
