A number of very Interesting church services have been scheduled for Sunday In La Grande, the week before the annual baccalaureate ser vices which will be held on May 22 for the La Grande High school grad uating class. ' During . the remainder of this month, which will be closed with Memorial day observances on Monday, May 30, following programs in many of the churches My 29, an unusual ly Interesting series, of sermons are being planned. Programs for Sunday include: Presbyterian Church (Sixth and Washington streets) "Our Hew DiBclpleshlp" will be the subject for the morning sermon by Rev. J. George Walz, at the Presby terian church, Sunday, May 15. There will be special music at the service, with Miss Edris M&guire at the or gan console. "There is a significance to the Christian dlscipleship needed today that lifts the challenge far above that which any other generation' has been called toheed," is the convic tion of the minister. There will be no evening service. Christian Endeavor groups meet in the church at 6:16 each Sunday eve ning, and the Juniors at 3:00 in the afternoon. Sunday Bible school Is at 9:45 a. m. Christian Chureli (Pennsylvania Avenue) "Believing a Lie" is the subject which Rev, Paul De F, Mortlmore has announced for his Sunday morn ing subject at the Church of Christ. "One of the greatest errors In re ligious thinking Is that sincerity is all that is necessary. There Is no scriptural ground whatever .for this belief, and I propose to show In my sermon Sunday morning how deadly may be the results of the reason ing," Mr. Mortlmore says in an nouncing his sermon. Mr, Mortlmore announces that the choir Is continuing the regular re hearsals and is planning to present some very interesting numbers dur ing the early summer. The Bible school meets at 9:45 a. m. Mrs. Dorothy Smuts is superin tendent. This Bible school is en Joying unusually large attendance and is aiming for an average atten dance of 300, . The Christian Endeavor societies, meeting at 6:30 p. m., have announc ed topics for this coming Sunday. All ages of young people are Invited to the Christian Endeavor service which divides into age groups for their lesson study. ' The famous "Barcarole" from the "Tales of Hoffman" will be one of the three numbers which the orches tra will present as a prelude to the evening service at 7:30. Attention Is called to the fact that the service will be continued at 7:39 until fur ther notice. The pastor will speak on tho subject "He Lingered." More than 250 people have been attending the Sunday evening services and it is the hope of the church to main tain this interest throughout the sea son, Those not attending services elsewhere are given & hearty Invita tion to the' services at the Church of Christ. The mprn ing service at 11 o'clock will have as speaker Evangelist Fred Snyder, whose sermon subject will be "Power With in." Special music will be furnished by Mr, and Mrs. Snyder. Mr. Snyder preaches the old-time gospel and his meet ings are attracting large crowds. The meetings are being held every night of the week at 7;t5 p. m. except on Saturdays, when there will be & street meeting. All are welcome. The young .people's meeting will be at 8:46 p. m.
