News of the Churchy
Interest Remains
High In Churches
Despite Vacation
Many Interesting Sermons
. and Programs Prepared
for Sunday in House of
Worship.
Although the churches are now
entering the final one of the three
wurra summer months, and the va
cation season is at Its helghth. In
terest In Sunday services continue
very good, the various pastors say.
A number of Interesting sermons
and programs have been unnounced
for Sunday In La Grande. They fol
low: First M. i:. Church
Church school at 0:45 o'clock un
der the direction of Supt. E. S. Bur
nett, opens the services Sunday at
the First Mcthodlbt Episcopal church.
The 1 1 o'clock morning worship
service will include choir music and
a solo by Leslie Da vies, who was
tenor soloist for one of the large
Portland churches last winter. The
sermon theme Is "Loyalty and Love."
Epworth League meets ut 7 p. m.
and popular evening services will be
held at 8 p. m. with a brief service
by the pastor. j

Holy Communion will be held at j
St. Peter's Episcopal church Sunday
morning; at 6, 8 and 11 o'clock. The
rector will deliver a sermon at 11
o'clock. Mrs Fred Hoover will pre
side at the organ during the month
of August.
No church, school will be held
during this month but It Is planned
to continue the regular worship serv

The attendance and Interest at
the M. E. Church, South, is holding
well, in spite of the vacation season.
Both the hours of worship and the
Sunday school and league are well
attended. The church invites the
public to attend all Its services.
The pastor, the Rev. Frank Hop
kins, will preach both Sunday morn
ing and evening. At 11 a. m. the
pastor will answer the question
"What is Christianity?" Sunday
night (following the league service)
the pastor will discuss "The Animal
Nature," Romans 7. Both these
discourses will bristle with truth.

Greatest Treasure to be Found."
First Presbyterian Church

the Baptist church, has returned
from his vacation, and the two con
gregations will worship In their res
pective churches this Sunday. Dur

glad to publicly acknowledge. He
leels sure that his flock has been

subject of the morning sermon will
be "Remembering." For the evening
l sermon, "The Fight of Faith." At
the morning service, Mrs. F. S. Sher
wood will sing a solo. All are cor

Lesson-Sermon In all Churches of
Christ, Scientist, on August 3.

comprise the Lesson-Sermon will be

(Jer. 31:3).
The Lesson-Sermon will also in
clude the following passages from the
Christian Science textbook, "Science
and Health with Key to the Scrip
tures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "Divine
Love always has met and always
will meet every human need. It Is
not well to imagine that Jesus dem
onstrated the divine power to heal
only for a select number or for a
limited period of time, since to all
mankind and In every hour, divine
Love supplies all good" (p. 494).
Sunday School Is held at 9:45 for
children up to the age of twenty

when the peak shipment Is on with
these, 100 or 150 carloads a day are

on the U. P. railroad, but with the
Cirunde Roude production, the cars
arc initially Iced before being sent
to Union for loading.

cars for the butter shipments out

carloads a week arc being handled.
Most of the butter goes to Califor
nia markets, where It Is sold and
