Residents of those communities now have The Observer (in their door step within an hour of the time delivei Crande homes. Giving them news 18 hours ahead of any! metropolitan daily is something m which we take pardonable pride. Carrier service has been maintained in the larger towns of Union county for several years. , Parking has received some concentrated attention by vari ous agencies this week and better .service to outsidvhoppcrs Is indicated for the future. Eor the first time the serious nature of the problem has been brought to the attention of many business men. Several admit that they have occupied parking1 space unnecessarily during crowded periods simply because they had not had the congestion called to their at tention. The result is that the side streets radiating from the business section are being sought by these town people i'or parking space, leaving Adams avenue more free for vis itors from over the valley and from neighboring towns, Police officers will watch the situation closely Saturday evening and everything possible will be done to provide mine convenient parking facilities. Im Grande inijdit qualify with a few. That is, if "wonders"! can lie safely interpreted as the most unusual things of in-1 tt'icst in n city. Few things me the cause of common wonder in this sophisticated line, Imt there are some unusual posses sions in every community. A proud La Grande citizen might well mention our sewage disposal plant, though the subject does not inspire wonder. First of its Kind west of the Hockies, it has heen visited liy many municipal experts from other cities and is heing copied in several communities. It is a model and therefore unusual. Our water supply system, deep wells included, is another item for consideration. Con stant tests place its purity at a higher point than that of any city in the Northwest. The clean, attractive appearance of La Grande streets and lawns has often lieen remarked hy visitors and may safely lie mentioned as one of our own seven wonders. And to local residents the possession of two fine, modern hotels that rank with the host in the Northwest is Hiniething to lie wondered at. Then if one is to consider the matter of unusual scenery we might well agree with the re lent traveler from the east who said that the view of the Grande Konde valley from the top of Alt. Kmily ranked above any panorama in the country and list that as a worthy pos session of unusual character. On the same plane can lie placed the lake hasin of the Wallowa country and for those who would cater to the inner man when mentioning wonder ful things we think that Grande Konde valley cherries would put up a strong argument. There are many more that might he named. If "greatest wonders" mean greatest assets, surely the hoys and girls of the community would head the list. Only because of them and the richer, happier, more worthy citizenship they can enjoy are the other wonders of much account. hy Mm. M. I'.
