FOR ALL i With the opening of colleges for their new year only six weeks off, their prospects in athletics, especially football, form a chief theme for discussion as usual. And also, as ; usual, criticism is heard concerning tho alleged dispropor tionate time devoted to sports by students. The charge has : i.lso been revived that only a comparatively few of the young men engage actively in athletics, the great majority obtain ' ing their physical exercise solely through the use of their ; lungs while rooting from the grandstand. i a While these criticisms come principally from those not in- timately familiar with college life, they formerly contained some truth, but are Un'oniing loss applicable each year to America's leading educational institutions. The new policy ; of "athletics for all," now generally in vogue, has effected much improvement. Under its operation all students are j t'licourngvd to take up some form of systematic physical !' training. As to the accusation that sport seems to le enipha- j sized more than scholarship, the outside public naturally . sees little ot the academic activities as compared with the;:'ihcr ' "Sl'1 ,v Asn.-s in her t"iv i,.w.t,.l.,,. ..;.!.. .,f ll.,.v. Naturally only a few in a big college can aspire to ivpre ' sent it in contests with other institutions, but the oppottun ; ity is open to all to engage in some form of wholesome : exercise with an element of competition and it is encour aging to find so many doing so. 4 Nail Hammers j No. lVs Cruso nail hammer, regular I pattern, .an excellent hammer for farm and home use.
