It, and then forget ult about trous er skirts until they seo tho next paid. It begins to looko hopeless. A big Rue do la Paix house Is the. latest sponsor of . jupe-culottes. They avo showing them thoro as foundations for houso gowns, des habille and evening frocks with lace and chiffon overskirts. ' A model with black satin trouser foundation, and black laco over dress with long sleeves, is said by Its designer to bo having quite a success. For every copy of the dress or dered with tho original trouser skirt foundation, however, four arc ordered with undivided skirt. Many of tho most successful re cent pajama suits have divided skirts instead of the more usual trousers. Of medium length they have tho appearanco of narrow skirts when the wearer is not In motion. . Other models have trousers with conventionally tight tops and flared legs which simulate nnklo long skirts flaring suddenly below tho knee. MENUS By Sister Mary Hot days Increase tho food prob lem. Tho summer heat and hu midity is most trying and doea much to mar the crisp n ess of foods even if actual spoilage Is avoided. Well selected containers go far toward keeping foods in good con dition. Covered glnss or enrthen waro dishes nro, excellent for stor ing food, both raw and cooked. Soft fruits like berries keep in bet ter shape. If they ar taken im mediately from the box in which they nro marketed und spread on a platter or plate Keep them In a cool place but not in the refriger ator unless a cool cellar Is not available. Whenever fresh fruits or vegetables ar kept in a refrigera tor they should bo stored in tho warmest place. I'so Ijeit-Overs Promptly The care of loft-overs require? special attention at this season of tho year. In tho first place, buy ati little as posslblo and thus do awuy with the possibility of left-overs. Make it a. custom to use all left overs promptly. Cooked vegetables that have been dressed simply with butter can be used In vegetable salad or reheated In a cream sauce. This changes the dish enough to multc It acceptable at tho nexc meal. Vegetables or meats that have been prepared in a cream sauco will spoil very quickly. They should be placed in ono of the coldest parts of tho 'refrigerator; and used within 24 hours. Bread and bread crumbs require1 extra cars during tho summer months. Hretul molds quickly and to overcomo this tendency It's a good plan to scald and sun tho bread container onco or twico a week. It's not wise to try to keep buttered toast more than a day. Tho butter soon becomes rancid and tho toast is ruined for crumb ing. -. 4 Buy Small Quantities 1 Bread crumbs which havo been dried In the oven soon become rancid if stored in an air-tight container. Put them in a glass jai and stretch double thickness of cheesecloth over tho top. Hold tho cloth in placa with a rubber band. It seems wisest to buy flours nnd cereals In small quantities while the weather is hot. The cereals loso their crispness and tho flours uro apt to become Infested with flour weevils. A two weeks' supply Is suf ficient. Ready - to - servo cereals and crackers can be crisped if placed In a warm oven for 20 minutes. They piust be thoroughly oooled before serving. Careful planning and calcula tion will do much to ellminato wasto and makes for economical housekeeping. , .Clearance Sale of Corselettes Girdles Discontinued numbers, not all sizes. 1.79 1.39 Regular ' Regular $3.50 $2.50 Values Values PUTMAN'S La Grande Exclusive Ready-to-Wear and Millinery Of all tho gold nitni'd In tho his- A portable crlmo detection lnb- tory of tho world. ono-clRhtlcth oratory, equipped with much sclen- hns como from tho Black Hills of tlfla apparatus, is used by tho South Dakota. - Hherlff at Los Angeles. i A now harbor for Iui'ko vessels is to bo constructed at ilouloeup' sur-Mor, Franco.
