Steamboat lake was well rjjfvered with thin ice .but open at several places and evening fishing was excellent. Sunday morning was different, however, as the lake was entirely covered with one fourth inch of Hew lee. which pre vented fishing before the men left for camp. One feature of the re turn trip was the "coasting" down mountain sides for about one-half mile on. the snow, which is very much in evidence in the high mountains. Mr. van Lle inin has been in this country since 1023 and can speak English quite well but it is reported that his children have not yet learned ths language and merely motion for things they want. Going to bos Angeles Mrs. Annio Lenhart, who has been in Baker and La Grande for the past two months on business, left for Los Angeles this morning. She has been here settling up the J. Lenhart estate. Mrs. Lenhart was formerly a resident of Baker. Here From Port In mi Mrs. A. J. Johnson, of Portland, was in La Grande Saturday and Sunday visiting her husband, who Is traveling accountant for the railroad. She also visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. O. John son.
