The four year period that is closing lias seen I.a Grande
directed by a city commission that has made an enviable
iccord for itself in constructive impioveniont, foresight and
the impartial administration of affair:; to the end that I.a
Grande might progress. The present water system, the
l nusually adequate sewage disposal plant, the improvement
ol many blocks of streets, the installation of. a modem light
ing system in Hie business district, the successful acquisi
tion of necessaiy sites for the new noinial school and high
vay shops without burdening the business community or
jeopardizing the municipal budget these are some of the
Major accomplishments that have won wide appioval and
; moral commendation for the cummissioneis. '
The. Observer has sometimes differed with the coiuniis
i iimers and some of their policies. It is impossible for any
three men, or any dozen, to cany on an administration
: gifeable to eveiyoiie at every turn of affairs. l!ut con
sidered as a whole, the terms served by this group have
been remarkably successful, of undoubtedly high value, and

La Grande has a wealth of material for the jobs. Mini
over in your mind a few names of good citizens of recog
nized ability and sound business judgim nt. In addition to
the present incumbents there is I'M Coulidgo, Julius Koeseh,
August Stange, V. II. Ilnlineiikainp, George Curry, Wm.-Nio-jj'ist,
YV. ('. IVi kins, A. I.. Uichni dson. Dean Crowe these

in' them well fitted by experience and civic interest for tht?

home city.
The Observer is obviously not inteiested in the election of
; ny individual or any group to the oily commissinu. W e
are very much inleiested, however, in the election of a
: pecial kind of citizen to that body the citizen with execu
tive ability and keen business judgment, with a zeal for
economy as inlerpieted in vise spending, with a broad vision
i I civic, development and betterment unlettered by petty
considerations, enthusiastic and energetic in the achieve
ment of things that count.
We have men of that calibre in our citizenry. It is up to
the community lo tee that three of them a.e made city
