I. Clarke, division highway engineer, who was u visitor al Camp Clatsop. This will b(. the first highway oiling project ever undertaken In Clatsop county by the state. When the Koosevelt highway was RUi-facX-'d from Seaside wouth to Hamlet Junction tho work was done Willi oiling in prospect and the, macadam specifications were drawn in order to give the best possible base for later oiling treatment. It ia possible that the oiling may start by tlie end of tilts week, but It Is more probable that it will be. undertaken during tho last week in June. ' Oil AVoik Start Under the oiling methods ad opted by the state the treatment Interferes with traffic only a short time. The road surface is first carefully prepared, nit loose mater ial being swept off down to the sol idly compacted base. Al least two courses of oil of different specific gravity are then applied under pressure and these are followed by screenings. 1 The road is messy and difficult for traffic while the oiling work is in progress, but is again in fine condition after a day or two. The resultH of this oiling work will be watched very carefully, as it Is somewhat in the nature of a test for oiled macadam in tills region. We can recite to you the advan (ages of Chrysler "70's" speed of 70 miles plus, its astonishinu pick up of 5 to 25 miles in VA seconds. We can tell you what its scien tifically balanced 7-bearinR crankshaftandimputsencutralizcr contribute toward its greater smoothness; how much more comfortably you ride because of its low chassis design, its unique sprints suspension and its shock absorbers-, how much more easily it handles because of its pivotal steering gear; and how much safer you feel because of its four-wheel hydraulic brakes. But the real way for you actually to discover these things for your self is to learn them today in an extended test over all sorts of roads, through all sorts of traffic, with you doing the driving.
