The eyes or children should al ways be examined by an oculist. He alone Is equipped with the faci lities and permitted to use the measures cscsntiul lo the thorough and scientific examination of a child's eyes. This Is only possible by the temporary suspension or t bo function of accommodation only permissible at the hands of a graduated physician. The function of accommodation is especially strong In childhood and enters into any examination in which it Is active, as a mislead ing factor. Hence Its suspension Is essential. There Is a tempatlon. which Is not always resisted, on the part of those outside of the medical pro fession, to bring litis imusure Into disrepute, claiming that It Is Injur ious to the eyes. This opinion Is directly contrary lo facts, and pro bably Is most common among those without scientlt'lr training.
