The mass good accomplished is immeasurable, and this applies to both counties. A better spirit has been engendered. The individuals who met with each other, rogardless of their home locations, became good friends, : There were no promises made- Hut vows of friendship and cooperation were heard.) This is indicative thut Wal lowa is cognizant of the exigencies of the day the demand for a banding together of hopes and aspirations with fellow men of the same mind. It is indicative that Union county men feel the same towal Wallowa county, and points to more complete two-county cooperation. . THE FOOLKILLER. The foolkiller is abroad in the land. He works nil the year, of course, but the summer is really his busy season. His aim is sure and fatal. There is only one way to avoid him: Don't be n fool. To take only one instance out of a day's news, three pills and three boys set out in a little punt on the St. Mary's river the other day. One of the boys started to demon strate how he won a Charleston contest. One of the six was rescued. In the first place, six people are too many for a small lst. Three are enough for the average rowlxmt. In the second place, monkey-business in small bouts is one of the foolkiller's most deadly weapons. Why people should think it funny to lock small bouts is one of the unsolved mysteries of human nature. It isn't funny to drown, or to come close to drowning and be rescued- Nor is it really funny to endanger the lives of one's friends. . It isn't really funny to venture out into water beyond one's depth when one cannot swin enough to have a gener ous margin of safety. It isn't really funny to show how fast one can drive nnd end in a hospital. It isn't funny to hug the road just to lie smart and sideswipe oneself, one's friends and the strangers one meets down the hill and into the morgue. There is something about the good old summertime which lets Joose all the silly desire to show off that is latent Jn human nature. - , , The foolkiller is always waiting.
