In a relentless campaign, cover ing the entire I'aeifle roust terri tory, the Star car bus been shat tering hill climb records and ac complishing high gear victories In it series of power demonstrations which eelipse anything of a like nature ever before witnessed in the entire history of the (tiitomohile. The world-famous Wawoua road Is the latest victim to be a. Id- d to the long list by the St:r car. r. C. CommltiH. Los Angeh-s airdner newspaper man, served as official observer on Die gruelling run from Los Angeles lo Camp Curry, while Julius liosevolr, fnc-J iory testing engineer, ttrove tne sturdy Star the entire distance. The trip was a non-stop run ns well ns the greatest high gear feat yet accomplished by the Star. It n Iso proved an economy run for the Star. No stops were made for oil, gns, water or mechanical adjustments throughout the 3C5 iiitlcs or the run. The route followed was (he same os that taken by the pilots In the nnnual Los Angeles-Camp Curry economy run and Is the shortest distance from theouthern metropolis to Yosemtto Valley, The route Is over the Itblge lioute with Its countless turns, through Fresno and thence over the dirt ronds and steep grades that lead through Coarse Gold, Fish Camp and Wa wonn. Oommlns, the observer on the run, ci disinterested newspaper man, was amazed at the, perform ance of the car. Ho mild he knew the Star was a "performing" fool" and that It was famous from one end of the country to the other for Its many high gear and hill climbing records; but he was great ly surprised when the Star trium phantly levelled off the three greatest hills encountered on the route. The long climb out of Va wona, the steep grade fo the sum mit of Chlnqapln Mountain and the long grind from Oiouse Creek practically all the way to Inspira tion Point caused him to marvel and comment enthusiastically on the great power of the famous "MILLION HOLLA H MOTfllJ." On the long, non-stop, high genr economy run the Star car used but 3-4 gallons of gasoline and scor ed an nverage of HOt miles to the gallon. This gas mileage record Is far nhcd of the winner In the re cent Yosemlte economy run in which Husevnlr drove n Star coach with nn nverago of 27. miles to the gallon. The feat Is all the more reinnrlt nblo when It Is' considered that It was but the thin! time Husevnlr had been over the course. Often a driver will make ns many ns ten practice runs before attempting nn economy run Into the Valley and no man Is ever picked to drive on any Itlnd of demonstration over the Yosemlte roads unless In In a ve teran of mnny past runs over the difficult route. Another remarkable fen t lire of Dnsovoir's most recent achieve, ment Is the time In which he cov ered the S r miles of highway In the Star. The ear was officially checked out of Los Angeles at r: 1 3 n. m. last Wednesday morning and reached Camp Curry, where it was officially checked in tt 7:3a o'clock that, same evening. This makes Dusevnlr's time 14 hours, 22 minutes and bears evidence of the fact that he pushed the Star over the roadH and did not spare the enr or eonirve fuel. 9 YEARS I OF 9 YEARS ELECTRICAL SERVICE JIEANS C00D SERVICE Dat lories And Electiienl Apparatus A I TO ELECTRIC SERVICE STATION E. If the motorists of the country succeed In their efforts lo get a repeal of the present wartime sat en taxes on motor vehicles and parts. This fact was pointed out to And rew W, Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury, at a recent conference In Washington. The motor clubs and farm organizations hove been op posing these war taxes from the users' Htmnlpftini: and the automo bile manufacturers sought this conferemv to call attention to the burden which this tux impum-H on! low-cost, t ranspoi latlon. Administration leaders at Washington have indicated that their will be a $:nui,iMto,nnu reduc tion in taxes at the next session of Congress. Among I ho reasons ad vanced against this Federal excise lax levy on automot ive products ore: 1. It is a tax on transporta tion; 1, It Is a special tax. in addi tion to alt the other general levies which motor vehicle makers anil 'users pay; 3. It is discriminatory only a few products were bur dened with special Federal war time taxes; 4. Others have had re lief. Most of the other Items es pecially taxed as a wartime meu sure have since been freed from these burdens; 6. Speclul automo bile taxation Is a slate function.
