La Grande has an election which bears directly on the!
(tty water question, and that question will take attention'
of La Grande people from national issues any time.
And, it is so on down the line. Every community haft
its local matters which are close to the hearts of the peo
ple, while national affairs seem a long way off.
The net result is that most voters lose themselves in a
maze of city measures on the ballot, state measures on the
ballot, together with a bevy of candidates who are being
attacked from almost every angle.
This very thing is probably responsible for a great
many people refusing to vote at -till. So, it is doubtful
if the legislature, which meant the best in the world, ac
tually did the right thing when it combined all elections
for the same day.

lowers that there is nothing to their fear; that Davis has
the thing won, and all that is left to do is to light the

Walter Pierce, Doc Morrow and the rest of the faithful
needed. From now until the midnight hour preceding elec
tion day there will be a Democratic campaign waged in
Oregon, and if Will R. had not rode the Pullman car from
