'tribute to Iter soldier le;itl. In n hundred thousand of America's holy places the leaders of the livinjr will invoke Viain the peace of i inhteousness upon the sliiniher of them who lie so .still, anil muffled drums will heat, and guns ltaijf silent echo forth salute. And when the smoke has drifted away upon the gentle breeze of spring, and the sun, breaking through a passing cloud, has lighted up the tender flowers that deck the verdant sanctuaries, the sobered throngs will file home r.giiin, heads bared rnd bent, eyes dimmed, but hearts erect from touch of that brooding spirit that guards these graves of green. Night will come und the unchanging stars Again will rolic in silvered light these million sepulchres where sleep the brave. And as the dawn puts out the myriad of lamps of heaven, the sun will reveal once more the flag that binds today to the yesterdays, and dedicates all past mid present to the better future. ' Tomorrow, if ever, should appear to opened hearts the vision of the Torch come down to us from hands that luivo borne it aloft so proudly. Tomorrow, if ever, should apifear the spirit that fired these unnumbered souls who, through succeeding generations, have laid their bodies on c flamiiig altar of liberty. Tomorrow, if ever, should jvc understand thahey twho have given and yet JivtK mother-like, love the mure for having given, and cherish the flag the nyro dearly for having suffered for it. We will rememlicr that as the broken ranks pass by. ! To serve God, to guard home and country, to win pence tor children and children's children these are the soldier's creed. It. is n creed that is written in the very soil we tread today, written in the blood of sacrifice and service. ' That the dead we honor shall not have died in vain is, indeed, the inspired thought of every such rededication of national impulse as that which will enhalo tomorrow. And Knked.wilh that may well be that other commitment, that the gay laugh of youth shall not now, or heieafter, be stilled "nave when the Torch shall light the grim path to holy duly.
