A touch of romance and a dash of pnlhos havo also been worked Into the plot. "The Northern Trail," a short reel feature adapted from one of James (liver Cut-wood's well known stories is also on tho program. SH ERR YS TODAY OX LY ' SCENES IN "THE KINGDOM WITHIN" 'INSPIRES ACTORS Actors as a rule are regarded more or less as proverbial wanderers. Any place they hang their bat is Heme, sweet home, to them. 1'- is seldom that nn actor, and particularly movie actors, have the privilege or the op portunity of taking their work right DOpio with them- Movie players sometimes have to travel thousands of miles in the making of ti picture. If the producer decides -Unit tho at mosphere must be as realistic as pas sible, a trip across the continent or even across the ocean,' may be the result. For example, the piftwre may have something to do with a scene in Egypt, in which perhaps the Sphynx c:r the Pyramids may play a prominent part. In that case, ft would be rather difficult to repro duce these in a way that would give the impression as being genuine. It, therefore, means that the pctui-e must be filmed right on the ground, so the entire company of actors and actresses must necessarily be taken to .Egypt. Costumes must be taken along, -camera men, in fact, all ef the paraphernalia and accessories re quired to do the work right there. The action in the' picture takes place in the midst of the big redwood trees ui California. 1 lie locale is laid in the little town of Alden, which nestles m the shadow of the forests cf Giant Redwood. Inasmuch as many of the players in the cast claim Cali fornia for their home, it was a real old home week for most of the com pany during the filming of this pic ture. When a director has a contented company, as must necessarily happen in a case like this, it makes his work much easier. One can readily under stand what an important bearing the location ot the picture has on the minds and temperament of the play ers. Mr. bchertinger says that never in his entire career as a director has he worked with a company that put so much enthusiasm into their work. The scenes are magnificent and give one an interesting and complete view of the famous redwoods of Califor nia. There redwoods are the largest trees in the world. Ten or a dozen men can easily stand on the stump ot one. Hie lamous tree In Califor nia where a tunnel has been cut right through and is large enough to permit a horse and carriage or an automobile to be driven through is interestingly shown. One of the feat ures of the picture is the scene at the sawmill where these giant trees can be seen going through the skids and into the mill. Also showing a comedy. SHKRRYS. SUNDAY, MONDAY POPULAR STAf-K PLAY ON SCREEN "The Little Church Around the Corner," is a screen adaptation from the well-known stape pay 0f Char les Blaney. Claire Windsor has the feature role and heads an all-star cast. The making of this picture by Warner Brothers was done on a stu pendous .cale and involved a creat expense cf money. A mine was spe cially constructed at a cost of Sl5,000 an exact reproduction of a Pennsyl vania mine; so realistically was it reproduced that it is said to deceive even the practiced eye of mine engi neers. It' is a workable mine save for the fact that no coal bed.-' are to he found in the HWlywood lot ad joining the studio where the scenes were taken.
