Poincare really needs is a vote c confidence in his theatres JAWN. DOG ACTOR, HAS BIG HOLE IN "TH K tUMiETTKIC It is not often that an actor, either i the legitimate stage or in the silent drama, has the opportunity of re-acting a role that he has lived in I real life. However, in "The litvtiPt- ter," Cosmopolitan's picturir.ation for Paramount of a Peter B. Kyne story, directed by E. H. Griffith, which will be on view at the Arcade theatre today and Saturday, such is the un usual experience ot John r rieiul, known to his fellow actors in the profession as "Jawn." "Jawn"may not be as familiar a figure to movie fans as is Charlie 4-haphn, Lionel tBurrymore or some of the other male stars of the screen, but among motion picture people he is known from ccaxt to coast. In short, 'Javn" is a dog actor and credited with being as good a one as ever fought for a bone. In fact ''Jawn's" story is one that rivals those of our leading film stars. He is owned by Raymond -M'cKee, leading man in pictures, who loaned him to the Cosmopolitan Corp. for the picturization of "The Go-Getter." In the story "Jawn" plays a promi nent role. In the first part ho is considered a dangerous and savage oeast, and every eiicrt is made to do away with him . by ipoisoning and drowning him. Strangely enough, "Jawn" was un tiergoing just such an experience wnen ne came into iho hands ol Mc Kee. The actor was working in a picture ,on the const at the time anil discovered "Jawn" while out on location in Southern California. The dog was considered wild and feroc ious and many wanted to dispose of him- "Jawn" evidently surmised their intention anil refused to eat any meat, fearing that it contained poison. He substituted on fish, which he procured for himself by diving intc, tne waters. it was this ability as a canine lisherman that attracted McKee to the dog. He purchased him and later brought him east. Since then "Juwn" has developed into a regular actor and is as tame as a New Foundland, except when the exigen cies of the picture demand that he be otherwise. v T. IRov Barnes ' nnrl Seenn iflwon play feature roles in "The Go-Get-ter," the cast of which also inclinlps William Nonis, Tom Lewis, Louis Wclheim, Fred Stanley, John Can-, William J. It is the Goldwyn picture, "Mad Love," and gives the Polish screen beauty one c.f her most out standing roles as Sappho, a beauti ful woman who delights in exacting the homage of men. Sappho discards the lover of whom she has just wearied, breaking his heart. His brother anathem11ti7.es the woman in her hearing, thereby arousing an interest in himself which soon turns to the first and only gen uine lave the woman has ever ex perienced. She tries to hide from her new love that it was she who had treated his brother so shamefully, but a jealous , millionaire, 'who has been supporting the woman, reveals the truth. The three principals then become as bits of flotsam flung into the vertex of a whirlpool, tosscil hither and. thither as passion dic tates. Sappho is killed, by her dis carded lover, at the end, in a mag- nilicenlly acted Hcont. . 'Mad Love" is a Pola Negri film that no odmirer otf hers should by any means miss.
