UP The demand for lumber is brisk and exceeds the HUpplv offered for sale by producers- Lumber manufacturer ;ire vpi-v cautious about booking order;. because the movement of bulky freight is becoming- more restricted and it is more difficult to obtain empty freight cais for lumber loading. On the Pa cifie coast rains have prently lessened the danger from forest fires with th? result that loK production has increas ed and in turn the manufacturers have increased the sawing of lumber, ac cording to the American Lumberman. Offsetting this the fact that tin ear supply is beeoinintr more ami' more scanty on the Pacific coast, with the result that movement ol lumoer bv rail is being cut down, particularly nt the mills which are located on small j roads or branch roads. In the South, i likewise, the car situation's anything j but good. Even where cars are ob tained and loaded they move very slowly, with the result that compara- livelv little lumber is reaching the1 consuming market. This undoubtedly is having the effect of stimulating the dcmna.d In other words, some pur chasers will place orders in several; places and take a chance on rancelinni the rrmnindcr nftr nm- qtmit i y.'-!
