PARK ONE OF MOST BEAUTIFUL IN STATE Talent, Which Travels From North to East and South to North, all "Rave" About the Wonders of the Beautiful Riverside Park, the Beauty' of Which Is Unsurpassed. NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH Great Comedy Hit Made Famous by Wil lie Collier It Scheduled for Chautauqua Patrons on Fifth Night July 8 to 14 inclusive are the red letter days for followers of the chau tauqua assemblies conducted by the Grande Roiidc Chautauqua associa tion. Coining later, than usuil this year, the assembly docs not conflict with Fourth of July celebrations in hjiv wav. and very probably will dodge the early July showers which sometimes annoy That the numbers will be present ed in the out-of-door auditorium at Riverside oa'rk. the most wonderful snot in Eastern Oregon, and the most delightful setting for a chiutauqua in the west with two exceptions, goes without saying. It has become an old story now, to hoar talent that travels the length and breadth of the land "rave" over Riverside park. Us beauty this year Is unsurpassing and the tender ministrations of Care Tak er Thomas, backed by the limited means of the park board have shown the fruits of hard work and good fi nancin'g. Program Is Balanced. Individual opinions of what a chiu .,....., nuuomhlv should be comprised of, differ, but long experience and study has determined the now recog-j rtized fact that a ehaUtauq.ua platform1 nitist be the source 'of varied enter--talnment And instruction. To overload it with music would edify the musi cian but would iir turn leave the ele ment -fond of lectures completely in the lurch. The reverse is true. To present a program without at least one day of novelty is another mistake. To present a .program without drama or. at least. light dram-i, would again be a mistake. Hence scanning this year's program one- finds that it is well rationed. A.II the elements that, go toward a well balanced chautauqu-i are to be .found in the sr;vcn-day as-' scmbly. the descriptive literature of the various'numhors will be found in this issue, and the hour of their appear ance may bel ascertained from the program in epitomo published herewith. The asso ciation tents however, are limited it number and all who wish to rent them should write to C. J. Black, La . (irnndc, at once, and a tent will be reserved for them. Like wise those who wish to bring their own tents should select their sites at the earl. iest moment. , , The directors are especially de sirous of having a big number camped on tho ground. Until financial affairs Permit expenditure of approximately! a thou sand dollars to build a heating sys tem t tho park; electric stoves are undesirable moans of cooking for campers at tho grounds during the chautauqua assermbly. Tho best way' Is to use an oil Htove which rnost fam ilies are suppUod with. ' The ' stoves aro of courso ample for all necessary conking on a camping expedition such as this is. - - ; Several times the directors have tried to provide electricity for cook ing purposes but the wiring system is Inadequate to carry the load and the plan has been abandoned until a bet ter system is installed which at the present time is out of the question. Consequently prospective camper rely on oil stoves for their cook ing, tho' lighting plant Is onty sufficient for lighting, and not for cooking. . .'i ' .
