tauqua assemblies conducted by the
Grande Roiidc Chautauqua associa
tion. Coining later, than usuil this
year, the assembly docs not conflict
with Fourth of July celebrations in

dodge the early July showers which
sometimes annoy
That the numbers will be present
ed in the out-of-door auditorium at
Riverside oa'rk. the most wonderful
snot in Eastern Oregon, and the most
delightful setting for a chiutauqua in
the west with two exceptions, goes
without saying. It has become an
old story now, to hoar talent that
travels the length and breadth of the
land "rave" over Riverside park. Us
beauty this year Is unsurpassing and
the tender ministrations of Care Tak
er Thomas, backed by the limited
means of the park board have shown
the fruits of hard work and good fi
nancin'g. Program Is Balanced.

present a program without at least
one day of novelty is another mistake.

be a mistake. Hence scanning this
year's program one- finds that it is

of the Neighborhood club this year,
much of the detail work of an ardu
ous task is taken off the shoulders

called to meet twice a week for n

the assemblies, and it is not empty

little work, for their hearts are in

To simply attend the chauUuqua
sessions is not the highest purposs of
the chautauqua movement. On must
bo a camper on tho ground to enjoy
tho fullest extent all that goes
with tJicso annual sessions. There ii
peculiarly fino enjoyment In sleep
ing 'nenth the towering eottonwoods,
andrising' early to enjoyUhe radiant
sunbeams as they spread their gold
en glow over tho greensward. The
facilities aro thereto be used by
campers, and in most any way that
pleases. Freo camping- space Is pro
vided for those who wish to bring
their own tents. The association hss
some tents already) Bet up which are
avuflable at a season, nd else trie
lights may bo installed in all tents at
very reasonable .rate. The asso
ciation tents however, are limited it
number and all who wish to rent
them should write to C. J. Black, La .

who wish to bring their own tents
should select their sites at the earl.

tried to provide electricity for cook
ing purposes but the wiring system is

plan has been abandoned until a bet
ter system is installed which at the
present time is out of the question.
Consequently prospective camper
rely on oil stoves for their cook
ing, tho' lighting plant Is onty
sufficient for lighting, and not for
