anticipation of the joyful hours they
are going to spend between the dawn
and the dark of the first "Peace"

years. Firecrackers will be entirely
taboo around where any of the cele
bration is taking place, but that will
not mar the joy of the day. Th
youngsters will have the joy of watch
ing the long line of their hero fathers
and brothers, assembled from all over
the district, and if they stop to think
about it, they will have the added
pleasure that their sisters and their
mothers, also intent upon getting the
most enjoyment out of the day that
they can, and glorying also in the
showing made by their soldier son i
and brothers, will have a much more
pleasant day with the fireworks ab
sent. -

, For the soldier boys are likely t-1 at
tract more interest tomorrow than
anything else in the parade. There
has never been an occasion in' La
Grande when all the service men of
the county could be seen together, -but
the earnest efforts of the committees
working on the. celebration -seem ' to
have attained the mu'eh-wished-for re
au.lt that of having a parade in which
nearly all the riien of the county who
ore the uniform in the recent .war
will take part. The men, be it said,
, are showing a most pleasing spirit of
willingness. With them all here, the
committee will take advantage of the
opportunity to secure .a record of each
man's military history and a plan has
been worked out for this purpose. Ser-
' vice men are all requested to meet at
' the high schoel building in this city

boxing instructor at Butler's Academy
in Portland and is clover and a hard

LONDON, July 8. Tho former Ger,
man emperor is soon to be placed on
trial, Lleyd George announced today
in his report on peace negotiation.
"The German army," said the pre--
mier, "is at present inadequate to' dis
turb the peace of the feeblest of Ger
many's neighbor nations."
He declared the tribunal which
would try the former emperor would
sit in London. German officers, who
had committed appalling infamies, tha
premier said, also will be placed oil
trial.
'The terms of the treaty with Ger
many in some respects wero terrible,"
ha said, "but terrible were the deeds,
which justified 'it."
Lloyd George stated the British del- '
egation to the pence conference had
taken the stand resolutely against any
attempt to put piedomlnantly German
