The story con cerns the rise to prosperity of Mr. and Mrs. Aleck Hulotte, who Hve in a suburb of New York. Mr. nnd Mrs. Hulette have never been sep arated a night since thtir marriage two years before the story opens, but. with Hulotte's advance toward suc cess his business calls him out of town on frequent trips. His wife feels that she is being neglected. She tukes up with Mrs. Leonard, a not very desirable neighbor, and through the latter, meets Jack Delamoro, a man of the city who haB a very un savory reputation. The breach be tween huRband and wife widens until it seems that nothing can ever bring them together again. Then something startling happens "to Mrs. Leonard which has a profound influence on thj lives of Mr. and Mrsr. Hulette. This interesting and entertaining stoiy has been staged in a splendid manner. The direction makes it run swiftly anil smoothly to a logical conclusion. Medical Springs Has Another Fire Medical Springs, Sept. 8 (Special) Medical Springs was visited by anothor fire Thursday night when the home of Mr. and. Mrs. Jeff Rce five miles south of Medical Springs, was destroyed. ' Mrs. Jleeae and her daughter,'1 Mrs. I.. A, Tidaal were alone in the house whoi tho fire broke out and vere unable to save any of their belong ings. The loss is ostmated at ?1,000 with nc insurance. Sept. 7 (United Press) Japan probably will offer as jsistance to the Allies in ship con struction if the United States modi fies her steel embargo. Japan may 'also propose that her army take a hund along the Eastern front, help ing Russia. MANUFACTURE OF WHISKEY ESDS LEGALLY I0NIGHI IN US (By United Press.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 8. Whisky making in the Uni ted States ends legally at 11 o'clock tonight. But whisky drinking does not end. There were 232,404,870 gallons of it stored in Avarehouses at the last report, not to mention supplies in saloons, wholesale liquor stores and with licensed liquor dealers. This supply will last several years. While the food control law under which John Barley corn is knocked out, is effective only for the duration cf tho war, prohibitionists declare whisky making never will be known again in this country. They are confident that with the experience gained from the present war experi ment, nationwide prohibition will soon bejidopted by Fed eral constitutional amendment. John made a hard fight in Congress before the knockout was administered in Section 15 of the food control law. Herbert Hoover counted John out in order to save about 10,000,000 bushels of foodstuffs to fight the war. ' What will happen to whisky distilleries is problemati cal. Some have already announced they will go out of bus iness. Others plan to continue making alcohol for indus trial purposes. Many may enter other lines even making malted milk. The law prohibits the making of distilled spirits for bev erage purposes. Straight alcohol and denatured alcohol may continue io be manufactured. There are about 700 plants equipped for making alcohol in this country. Only about GOO, however, actually have been making whisky. Hoover's order stops all processes in the production of whisky at 11 P M. "The use of fds, fruits and food ma terials or feeds may not even be initiated unless the entire process may be fully completed prior to 11 P. M.," his or der stated.
