MARRYING A TITLE
Eleanor Medill Patterson Mad an income of $20,000
year. So a Russian nobleman came along and married
her. His name was Count Josef Gizycka. But like many
American girls Miss Patterson was buncoed. Her fiance
promised her a castle' and seventy servants. The castle
turned out to be a ramshackle affair surrounded by peas
ants' .huts. Tli'e seventy servants were Russian boys and
girls who served when .they felt like it without pay. Now
Mrs. Gizycka is suing her husband for divorce, saying he
had devoted himself after his marriage to pursuit of wine,
women and song, and that he had manned her for her
money only. When will American girls learn that an
American is good enough, for a husband?

SAVING THE PEOPLE'S MONEY
General Goethals'was buying steel at $95 a ton. Certain
contracts were submitted to Chairman Dcnman of the
Federal Shipping Board who refused to sign them. Now
since the President has power to commandeer steel
Chairman Dcnman is getting steel for $56 a ton. It
looks to us as if Chairman Dcnman had done a big service
to the American people in saving them $39 a ton on steel
many millions of dollars. General Gocthals resents the in
terference of Chairman Dcnman in his work of running
the emergency shipping fleet corporation. Whether he
likes it or not, as long as Chairman Dcnman can save the
people money in hubs sums, the American people should
keep Mr. Dcnman on the job. If it comes to a choice be
tween Dcnman and Gocthals, we sav keep Dcnman on the
