BREAKS LEG WHILE PLOWING

student of tha Oregon Agricultural
College and half-back of O. A. C. team

on Wilbur Zurbrick's farm yesterday,
breaking his left leg. The team of
six horses becoming excited ran away
throwing Dutton on his left leg which
resulted in a bad break. While in a
football game last fall with Multno
mah the same leg was broken. He
was immediately taken to the hospi
tal and is reported to be resting eas
ily this morning.
Dutton recently made application
for enlistment in the Aviation corps
at San Francisco but was unable to
pass the examination on account of
his leg having been broken. Not to
be discouraged he was to leave for
Portland tonight for final examina
tion for the Aviation corps in that
city.
"Scooty" as he is known to most of
his friends is well known in this
part of the county having spent last
summer's vacation on the Reynolds
farm near this city.

United States National bank, who was
to have represented the local order of
Elks at the national convention held
in Boston, July 4th donated the sum
of $250, that was to have covered his
expenses, to the La Grande Field Hos
pital corps for a private company
fund. Mr. Scroggin put a vote be
fore the order that this, be done and
that the local lodge not 'be represented
this year at the convention. Mr.
Scroggin says that he takes a per
sonal interest in these boys that are
leaving as they are the best the city af
fords and that the fund will help
them. Hats off to him for his patri
otic sacrifice.

for appendicitis yesterday. The
operation has proven successful and

Italy Loses 310 Freight Cars.
Officials of the Berwick plant of
the American Car and Foundry Com
pany have received word that 310 cars
of a 3,000-car order 'being 'built in
Berwick. Pa., for tha ITfni;
ment went down in the sinking of the
wasnington, which was carrying
equipment to Italy. The Italian gov
ernment is contracting for the re
placing of the 310 cars.
