coe "Fatty" Arbucklo in the rolo of
an ardent lover in tho unromantic at
mosphere of a grocery store and amid
tho sacred precincts of a girls' sem
inary will only be surpassed in happi
ness by tho realization of seeing his
latest two reolor, "Tho Butcher Boy,"
tho first comedy made by tho merry
movie minstrel in business for Para
mount and which will bo at the Ar
cado Friday and Saturday. On tho
authority of no less a personage than
Mr. Arbucklo himself, this is the most
hilarious picture the star-director has
yet appeared in.
"The Butcher Boy" is crowded witn
Action, the antics of Arbuckle finding
expression in the most amazing new-
ways. "Fatty" the butcner Boy, is in
love with the cashier (Josephine
Stevens) who is the daughter of the
proprietor. "Fatty" has a rival for
her favors in Al St. John, also cm
ployed in the grocery store. "Buster"
Keaton, anothor employee, contributes
to the gaiety.

"I want it emphatically understood
that I am not afraid of a cow,"
smiled Marie Doro, the charming
Lanky star as she sat at lunch under
a tree during the noon-day pause
while filming some exterior scenes for
"Castles for Two" the Lasky-Para-
mount production in which she will be
seen at the Arcade tonight. I may
be afraid of toads and snakes, but I
am not afraid at cows as 'Castles for
Two' tries to show, and I am making
this statement to tho world so that
this gross libel will be offset.
"I like my part in 'Castles for Two,'
because I not only have an opportun
ity to wear some beautiful clothes,
but when I was posing as an Irish
servant, we had some lovely times, on
ocation. Of course the water was
cold when I went wading, but it al
ways seems so panicky to come out m
to the woods and play around in front
of the camera, and lay out the lunch
under some wide-spreading tree.
"Now! must go back and climb that
tree once more. ,
On Friday night there will be given
away at tho Arcade two statues of
Fatty Arbuckle. On Saturday two
will be given away. These statues are
ia perfect imnge of Fatty and will bo

Press) why wait for a submarine?
The gunners on a foreign steamer ar
riving here the other day grew tired of
waiting for one of Kaiser Bill's under
water boats, so practiced at whales
along the coast. One whale near the
Oregon coast was "tickled" tnree out
of five times.
Tacoma, Wash., May 15. (United
Press) Tacoma evidently isn't going
to have a park board election this
year, although the charter provides
that the vote shall be taken. . No
candidates yet have appeared. No
person has even made inquiries about
the election, according to Secretary
George Gower of the park board. The
election date is June 5.

Puyallup, Wash., May 14. (United
Press) The call of spring was too
much for a score of students at the
Puyallup high school. They kid
napped their teacher 'tis said, a
pretty miss and spent the day at
Maple wood spring, a gamboling o'er
the green. And oh, the fragrance of
the May flowers; the buzzing bee; the
bugging leaflet oh, la, la. But to
day great gobs of grief these self
same students are marching before
the principal with funeral step, ex
plaining why they shouldn't be ex
pelled. Portland, Ore., May 15. (United
Press) "What do you mean by fly
ing the German flag?" demanded the
broadshouldered policeman on the
front porch of Mrs. A. D. Goodfellow,
390 Jefferson street. "Where do you
seo a German flag?" she asked.
"Right here," answered the cop, and
he pointed to a flag hanging from the
porch of the Goodfellow home.
"We've had several complaints that a
German flag was hung from this
house and this is a German flag all
right." He ordered her to take down
the flag. She refused, advising the
officer to go somewhere and find out
wha a German flag looks like. The
banner v;as the British flag and is
still flying from the Goodfellow porch.
Misoula, Mont., May 15. (United
Press) Local authorities are stumped.
They arrested August Siroppcl on a
charge of grand larceny, and Siroppel
can't read or write. He can't even un
derstand ordinary sign language. For
30 years Missoulians have known him
as "the Dummy." The authorities
are trying to find some way to pros
ecute Siroppel, but "the Dummy"
probably does not even know why he
is arrested. It is impossible to ex
plain the nature of the charge against
him, or to arrange for him to enter
a plea. He had $5 and a watch, al
eged to have been stolen, on his per
son when arrested. There's only one
person who can converse with Sirop
pel. He's Robert Frederichs, state
university of Montana student, now
with tho aviation corps in far-off
Texas.

most a quarter of a century in one lo
cation, the Evening Budget has moved
from its pioneer location and today is
occupying larger and more modern
headquarters.
Astoria, Ore., May 15. (United
Press) Astoria's recent smallpox
epidemic cost $1333. Today the city
is building an isolation hospital, pre
paring to handle such emergencies
with greater ease and less expense
the next time.
