"God'a Crucible," Rugged Drama, j
Painted scenery, Btreet scenes In a
city, vistas of a country road and taw
dry equipments of the average photo
play will pale into insignificance when
"God's Crucible" is exhibited at the
Colonial theatre today and tomorrow
in Bluebird photoplays. This rugged
drama was photographed amid the
grandeurs of Arizona's Grand Canyon
one of the world's wonder-spots,
and to bring these scenes before the
eyes of local picture "fans" is an
achievement of which Bluebird has
reason to be proud. This is the first
time any producing corporation has
displayed the enterprise and accepted
the enormous expense of sending a
numerous company of photoplayers to j
Arizona's Grand Canyon. Work can be I

rare conditions, for the sun cannot al
ways penetroto to the depths of the
chasm, the walls of the gorge are not
always free from mists and clouds,
and it requires time and patience to
await proper conditions for acting and
photographing the scenes.

Marguerite Clark, who was last
seen on the screen of the Arcado thea
tre in the Famous Players adaptation
of "Snow White," will appear at the
same theatre in the Famous Players
adaptation of Molly Elliot Seawell's
"The Fortunes of Fifi," her next Par
amount Picture to day and tomorrow.
In "Snow White" Miss Clark played
the role of the delightful little pnn
cess whose faith in her feathered
friends brought her safely through
many perils. "Fifi," though equally
charming, is quite another character,
She is a little minx of a French ac
tress whoso colossal . conceit makes
her believe that she is a great actress
despite the failure of the first com
pany with which she becomes con
nected. Nothing daunted by this catastro
phe. Fifi goes to Paris where she In
comes at once the joy and despair of
Cartouche, a kindly veteran of the
Napoleonic wars, who takes the little
chit of a girl under his protecting
wing. Cartouche, prevented from an
swering the call to arms iby his old
wounds, has turned actor and is en
gaged by the Imperial theatre at the
Street of the Block Cat.

her piquant conceit, makes her very
popular. Cartouche, her self-appointed
guardian, purchases a govern
ment lottery tocket which he insists
upon presenting to Fifi. The ticket
is declared the winning number and
Fifi suddenly comes into possession of
a fortune.
Thereupon Cartouche decides thnt
she must be educated and made a
"lady," much to her disgust, for the
littel girl has sincere dramatic as
pirations and is in love with Car
touche despite the veteran's efforts to
assume a very stern and fatherly at
titudo toward her.
Little Fifi is bundled protcstingly
off to the home of Louis Bourcet, a
model young man whose mother is en
trusted with the instilling into her
heart of the principles of culture. The
comic and near-tragic results of this
efforts to deflect her from her chos
band upon the incorrigible Fifi beg-
1 gnr description. The revolt which is
instituted by Fifi ranks high in the
annals of personal revolutions, both
in picturesqueness and efficiency.
Needless to say, Fifi circumvents all
efforts to deflect here from her chos
en path.
"The Fortunes of Fifi," which was
directed by Robert G. Vignola, in
cludes in the supporting cast William
Sorellc, John Sainpolis, Yvonne Chev
alier, Kate Lester, Jean Gauthicr and
J. K. Murray.
