SATURDAY, MARCH 10, 1917 LA GRANDE EVENING OBSERVER PAGE FIVE MOTOR-AND AUTD HOTES . 'Can you imagine an object two thousandths of an inch in thickness less than one-half the width of a hu man hair? It isn't very likely that you can mea sure, much less see an object of such minute proportions, unless you are .-nniiwri with micrometer or micro Yet the .cylinders of automobile motors are subjected to such rigorous -inspections in some manufactories that a variance of two-thousandths of .an inch is sufficient cause for the re jection of the cylinder under examina tion. All Willys-Overland motors are test ed by "go" and "no go" gauges. The "go' gauge which allows for one-thousandth of an inch clearance, makes sure that the cylnder is not too . tight for the piston. The "no go" gauge, one- thousandth of an inch larg er than the bore of the cylinder is t,ed to make sure that it isn't too large, for should that plug fit into the .cylinder l't'-pu'd be promtly rejected. However, rejections IS00 hil? Cause re few and far between, because of the accuracy of the manufacturing op erations through which the cylinder -has passed. ... tions will get better with the coming of better weather. Last year at this time w were getting machines thru in ten days regularly and could always depend on not more than two weeks. "With the coming of spring we have no doubt but that it will bs impossible to keep a stock of machines in Port land for they will be drawn out fast er than the factory can supply them. This will make it necessr.ry to draw from the factory with its attendant delays. "To overcome this condition as far as possible we have placed orders for a number of machines to be shipped to us at once, for others to be shipped us at intervals of a week apart and are also placing all orders received, with the factory for immediate shipment so that they will be sure to be on hand when wanted. All buyers are urged to make up their minds at the earliest possible mament or they are very liable to be dissapointed when they do make it up."' WILIYS OFFERS U. The white Shetland, with the striped or Scotch plaid border, is very much used with the plain white or black sailor hat. D A Harley-Davidson Surprise -the New "Master 17" For 1917 the twin cylinder Harley-Davidson models have si new motor. We want you to see this new motor perform. A giant in power, this motor has the "jump," "punch," "getaway" and that extra burst of speed that will make It the talk of the trade. "Pep" is the one word which best describes its performance. Such snap has never been built into a motor before. Slowed down on a hill it will pull, and keep on pulling. We believe this motor will out run and outpull any other stock motor. We make this statement because the Harley-Davidson has won every big race of the past season, and each one of these con tests taught the Harley-Davidson engineers something new about motor performance, and all of this experience has been built into the 1917 twin motor. Come in and we will give you an opportunity to see this new mo tor perform. Find out for yourself what it will do on the hills let us take you out on the open road, and then see if you can find a stock motor anywhere that will stay with it W. H. BOHNENKAMP CO.
