When your wife and you fall out,
Don't strut about and shout,

The kiss of a husband is a pledge
of his love for his wife.
I have advised men to kiss their
wives. J have-not advised wives to
kiss their husbands. J
The kiss that a wife gives to her '
husband does not mean as much to the !
husband as tho kiss that a husband
gives to his wifo.
To a husband a kiss is only a kiss.
Man only wants to be loved; he isn't
particular about being perpetually
told that he is being loved.
To a wife a kiss is more than the
mere meeting of lips. A woman isn't
content merely with being loved. She
wants to be continually told that she
is being loved.
A husband is telling and retelling
his wife of his love every time he
kisses her. A woman is happy every
time she is given a reaffirmation of
her husband's love with a kiss. A
woman who is conscious of her hus
band's love will make all necessary
sacrifices for her husband, will bear
every trial willingly, will strive to
avoid every quarrel. A woman is
conscious of her husband's love when
her husband kisses her frequently.
To many wives a kiss only means
"good-bye." To others it is only the
equivalent of "hello." But the kisses
that are given when the husband is
not either going or coming mean much
more. They aro expressions of love,
expressions for which every wife is
constantly yearning.
I know of only one variety of kiss
the kiss of a pure man for a pure
woman. I care not whether it be
planted on the forehead, the cheek or
the lips the kiss of a husband to his
wife is the re-pledge, the reaffirma
tion of his love. If more husbands
would kiss their wives more frequent
ly the judges who have to try divorce
rases wouldn't be so far behind in
their work. And the divorce lawyers
would starve to death.

They Receive $25,000 and Thanks of British Salvage Court
As Reward for Courageous Exploit Stay By
Their Ship and Bring It to Port.

London, Feb. 4. (liy Mail) Three American sea
heroes are sailing home with $25,000 and the formal thanks
of a British salvage court as their reward for one of the
most courageous exploits in British maritime history.
Thev are Pol) Pergusson, of San Francisco, and Topi
Welch and John Smith, of the U. S. A."
By a sudden impulse they pledged themselves to stand
by one another and the sea-going tug Vigilant, of New
York. Battling one of the fiercest gales the Atlantic has
ever known the trio refused all aid arid brought their
doughty but badly punished little era ft safe into Cardiff.
Ferguson told his story to the United Press as he left

"We ran into a rough patch of
weather soon aftar leaving New York
last October 13," he said. "It made
us dodge into Halifax for a day but
we reached at. John s on tne i an.
That very afternoon we sailed again,
with Captain luce and a crew of six
teen. 'I was second officer.
"We had dirty weather from the
start. But as the days passed our
coaf grew lighter and we rolled more
and more. Four days this lasted.
Then, 800 miles off the Irish coast
Captain Ince wirelessed for help.
Queenstown replied that a iatrol boat
was coming but she never did find
us. Meanwhile we put out distress
signals and sighted a vessel about two
miles off. She never even hesitated.
' "On Sunday, the 29th, we ran into
the fiercest gale I have ever experi
enced in all my years of sea-faring.
Captain Ince was afraid wo would
turn turtle so he signalled the Holland-American
liner Ryndam for help
arid gave the order to abandon the
ship.
"I didn't want to quit so I 'went be
low to get volunteers to save the tug.
There J found the crew dressed in
their shore clothes, with life preser
ver under their coats.
"They gave me the big k'.ugh
thought I was kidding. I passed them
up and went into the engine room.
There was- Welch, getting ready to
leave.
"I looked him straight in the eye.
'Welch,' I said, 'you told me yester
day you were no bar-troom sailor.
Now's your chance to prove it.' He
didn't say anything just stuck out his
hand and we shook. Then we got
Smith and the three of us told the
captain we were going to stick.
"The Ryndam came tumbling along.
Captain Ince and the rest went off in
a boat still calling us fools and the
last we saw of the liner passengers
were at her rails giving us a last
cheer.
Welch went down to the engines,
Smith took care of the fires and I
took the bridge. We had no food; I
just chewed tobacco. At last we
sighted the Scotch vessel, Klying Fox
which sent us six men to repair a
break-down in nur steering gear. Aft
er that it was comparatively easy to
reach Cardiff."
Pergusson made just as hard a
fight for his salvage. The ship's own
ers wanted to give him $100(1 and an
inscribed go!d watch and $!i00 to each
of the seamen. Kcrgusson replied
"nothing doing" i;nd fought his case
in court.
He received $12,500 and Welch and
Smith $li,500 each.

The last five sales have been from residents who reside
away from Grande Itonde valley.
It apparently is the same old story: Home people as
a rule do not realize the opportunities that are here.
