ARCADE LENORE ULRICH AT ARCADE Many types and kinds of Oriental dancing are parfoimtd by the native dancing women in Lenore Ulrich's new Morosco-Paramount photoplay "The Road to Ixve." 1 The scenes of the Fantasia, which in taken from life and makes a fa 'dilating and highly romantic photb i play that is the attraction at the Ar cade theater today and tomorrow. ' The reality of Morosco-Paramount photoplays never has been more suc cessfully maintained than in the story of the Algerian des.-rt, "The Ror.d to Love," vith Lenore Ulrich as the star. Gowns, ai ms, rugs, costumes and all the paraphernalia of Algerian life were secured from a wealthv Alp-nrian play so important and critical at part who takes part in this picture play. ARCADE TODAY . LENORE. ULRICH n inf. KUAU TO LOVE. VS THE OLIVER MOROSCO PHOTOPWCO.1 3 of this love story, are truly Oriental. But more beautiful than any of the native beauties, Lenore Ulrich in the gauze and spangles of the celebrated and much sought Hafsa, stages the premiere dance of tho evening, a per formance that has a very potent in fluence on Hafsa's advenutrous ca reer. It is a career, by the way, that This native supplied the Algerian dancers, musicians, camel drivers and all the strange equipment of these people. The sight of these desert dwellers at their accustomed tasks creates an air of genuineness that adds an Oriental flavor to this strong ly attractive love story of the near east. t SHERRY'S SHERRY'S Thedu Bura makes her reappear ance in vampire roles m the new Will iam Fox picture, "Tho Vixen," at the Sherry theater last time tonight. Miss Kara plays the part of Elsie Drum- mond, a young society trirl who wrecks the life of her sister, Helen, by ingenious plots and false state ments. She brings unhappiness to one man. and is only saved from bringing ruin on her home by the forbearance of the sister she has wronged. ine aenouemer.t comes some years later, when the deceit which Elsie had practised toward her sister is proven. It is then that Helen's forbearance saves her from the unhappy home life. SHERRY'S SATURDAY ONL i ill 0 w v y if! I. A. JOHNSON I'ERRIBLE SWEDE MAKES HIT ... w In a Return Engagement of "THE FLOOR-WALKER'! A British patent covers a series of tanks attached to a cable to permit a vessel to spread oil on rough water. One can't toll by the size of a man's hr.t how much ho doesn't really know. In matters of health to be safe than sorrv." "it bette I. A. Johnson, who staged an ex hibition of strength at the Arcade theater last evening certainly made good in every sense of the word. Steel horse shoes, steel bars, two and a half leeks of playing cards, and steel ;hains were more playthings in his bands. He also claimed to be able to break a three-fourths inch Manila rope by a straight pull but evidently this statement was doubted as a seven-eighths inch oiled rope was pro duced from the audience. This did noU bother "The Terrible Swede" as he proceeded to break that rope much to the gratification of the audience. To top the climax, at the invitation of Mr. Johnson IS of the huskiest men of La Grande went up on the stage and were lifted off the floor. Following are the names and weights of most of the men who were lifted: Harry Swart 260 pounds; Dick Melville, 195; Pat Foley, 224; Bill Stoops, 255; Dick Kel ly, 285; Chris Miller, 200; John Rog ers, 225; Cass Humphrey, 260; Vic Melville, 190; Bill G randy. 240; Mr. Roberts, 200; Mr. Eckland, 160. These weights come to 2694 pounds. There were six other men whose names or weight could not be learned but they were all large men and it is a certainty that Johnson was lifting "some weight. Much merriment was caused when, these gentlemen marched down the aisle to take their place on the stage as it seemed that the town had been combed for heavyweights. Mr. Johnson will give an exhibition of wrestling with an unknown man picked by C. 1). Km;-.hiscr. There is a good deal of curiosity as to the identity of the "Unknown" but the management of tho Arcade has not been enlightened on this subject and the name has been kept a secret. There will be only one exhibition and that will be at S:"0 tonight, at the end of the first show. They are born with bamboo legs, ready to go fishing. All a stork has to do to go fishing is to stick his leg cut over a lake and sit there. Of course, he can't shove it in the mud and go off and leave it. Still, no man who has ever herded a flock of wild poles in a three quart buggy over a bumpy road will deny ! that it is an advantage to go through I'life with poles attached.
