Mabel Taliaferro, the fascinating and talented little star, will be seen on the screen here at Sherry's today last showing in "God's Half Acre," one of the prettiest and moBt charm ing stories ever presented in the silent drama. The story deals with a little girl named "'Blossom," the servant in an aged folks' home known as "Rain bow's End." The kindly old inmates call her "The Angel of Rainbow's End' as she is forever administering to their wants and their comforts. A well-known novelist comes to the home to get material for a chapter in a book 'he is writing. But once he be comes acquainted with "Blossom" he soon finds himself writing hex into his book, and becomes the central character. The story is handled in a pleasing and unusual manner, .- and there are many surprises and tense situations. the greatest film ever produced but the local managers can't see it that way; they have an opinion of their I own. Reviewed by Thomas C Kennedy in 1 Motography. A picture of rare pictorial beauty is "The Stronger Ixve," in which Vivian Martin ig seen for the first time as a Morosco star. In fact, beauty is the foundation on which tho appeal of the offering must stand. Miss Martin is Nell Serviss, the girl around whom a story of love and mountain feuds are built. It is an appealing romance dealing with two very human characters. These char acters are Nell and her cousin Jim Serviss. The girl has two couRins and because of their frequent disputes the Widow Serviss advises Nell to make up her mind to marry one or the other, which is the only way to put an end to the trouble. Nell decides thnt h she must marry she would rather have Jim. Tom drinks a lot. He is drunk more than half the time and he trie3 to force his attentions on Nell.- For tunately for her Jim is not far away whenever this happens and on three occasions Tom is knocked down by his brother. On tho other side of the mountain, the Rutherfords live. Kolf Ruther ford left the mountain years before and he is now a geologist and he re turns to his homo in search of radium. He desires to keep his identity from the Serviss fnmily, not wishing to have his work interrupted by mani festations of tho feud existing be tween the Rutherfords and the Ser viss people. He and Nell become acquainted and a strong friendship develops. Jim suspects him of being a "revenooer,'' so when Jim's still is burned he im mediately blames the stranger. A Come In And Let Me Tell You About My, New Farm Loan conference is held at which it is de cided to attack the Rutherford cabin. Nell hurries on ahead to warn her friend. When the door of the cabin is broken down Nell, steps before the crowd and says she loves the stranger and will marry him. Jim is broken hearted but he manfully accepts the inevitable. But a few moments later Nell joins him and explains that she only did that to save Rolf and that she reckons she belongs in the moun tains with him. Frank Lloyd plays the heavy role in a quite satisfactory manner. Edward Peil does splendidly as Jim Serviss. Jack Livingston, Alice Knowlnnd, Herbert Standing, John McKinnon and Louise A. Emmons make up the balance of a good cast. The photography is a credit to James Van Trees and an important element in the enjoyment this offering affords. This picture will be at the Arcade today and tomorrow. NOTES FROM FILDOM Pepper, the Arcade kitten mascot went to the Cat's Happy Hunting Ground the other morning. Too many mice. To Local fans: Mr. Fox, Mr Para mount, Mr. Lasky, Mr. Metro, Mr. Screen in La Grande for some time to come. Manager Trull tells a good story. While in the show business in Elgin he placed a sign out, "Matinio Today." A man came up, spelled out the word M-a-t-i-n-e-e then asked Mr. Trull if it was a good show. Mr. Truil went to the pains to explain the word then the fellow remarked he guessed he would take a chance but he never heard of that show before. "Nobody Home." They ask why nouses don't run vaudeville. Just because we can't get acts that the people want to see. .Look at the Portland Vaudeville houses paying big prices for acts that throng them; ask people who visit Portland, they will tell you. La Grande's Picture Houses Their Slogan Clean Pictures For Clean People. 'Bill Siegrist says he thinks he will make a movie actress of the new ar rival; he is quite positive she will be a movie fan. "I wouldn't give $500.00 to see The Little Girl Next Door," remarked a blind man. I wonder what he would pay to see Purity before it was cut to pieces. A 20 Year Amortized Rural Credit Loan No Commission No Renewals TO UNION COUNTY FARMERS:- For several years I have been working and planning for easier money to loan on good old Grand Roiule farm lands. Finally I have arranged with one of the largest loaning companies (a company that has $85,000,000 loaned to the farmers of the VVest) fdr a real Rural Credit loan based on a 20-year amortized plan. 20 equal payments of but little more than current in terest pays off your entire debt. You pay no commissions, choose your own date of payment and pay at your own bank. You can pay any amount of your loan at any time- This plan figures you a saving of nearly 3 per cent over the usual farm loan made heretofore in this county. If interested call and let me explain fully. Geo. H. Currey The manager in a near by city writes us, "I do not believe any man agcr tries harder to please his patrons and give them just what they want than I do, and I don't believe any one has as many kicks as I do." Cheer up friend you are not alone in your sor row, some people would kick if they had the moon. The theatres have been holding a reception to a crowd of film agents. Each one, in his own estimation has A remark overheard; The two big gest grouches in town, Howard Trull and Mrs. Lciter. Cheer up it may not be true; they are practicing smiling before a looking glass. Something that can't be done: make Bruce Dennis into a movie fan. One of the local houses is showing slides of Wilson and Hughes. Quite a bit of rivalry is being occassioned over showing these slides, one party going so far as to hold their wives hands so that they could not applaud the wrong (?) man. Mine. Petrova, the Metro star, has written two of her own five-part pro ductions. The first is called 'The Weaker Sex," which was only recently finished and "The Orchid Lady," which is now in production.
