The injured man s taken to the house and Dr. C. S. Jloore was summoned from Imbler. On examination it was found that .Mr. Tuttle had a serious scalp wound, one broken rib and other severe toruiKM. It is not believed that there Aire any serious internal injuries and "4he attending physician's opinion is that the injuerd man is not in u criti-1 -eal condition. At this writing he is ' sullying from the shock and suffering ionsiderably. How he escaped fatal injuries is almost miraculous. Some part of the machine tore the heel entirely off one shoe but the foot was not even scratched. A passing iiutomobile, it is thought, frightened Mi? Tutlle's team and caused them to rush upon the othev machine. Tuesday nfternoon while some chil dren were exercising on a trapeze at the Charley Cleaver home. Lydia, . Painter Ruins "Six Immortal Acts" Anita Stewart of the Vitagraph company is higly indignant. And no wonder. She has been called immoral by an illiterate sign-painter, too. It all happened when an amateur Fordham letter artist, in making a poster advertising the little star in "The Suspect," unwittingly made the announcement read: "Anita Stewart in six immoral acts i:i "The Suspect'." F. P. A., who conducts "The Con ning Tower'' in New York Tribune, ran the brillian sign artist's product in his column; then ,Anita wrote him declaring the show was 99 and forty four hundredths per cent pur... ' May Allison, co-star with Harold Lockwood in "The River of Ro mance," has a new pet, a tinyrblack kitten named "Me-Yo", which the Metro-Yorke Film Corporation has adopted as a mascot. "Me-Yo," whose name is made from the first two letters in Motvo and Yorke, proved its ability as a mascot by bringing sunshine after many days of rain. Fashions (BY MARGARET MASON) Little goldfish in a bowl, Birdies in a cage, You must now be all dressed up For it's quite the rage. New York, July 28. The modern woman, seemingly surfeited with trimming herself und incidentally trimming her husband has turned her attention to trimming up the house hold canary and the family goldfish. At least, if not the canary and the gold fish personally, she has their domiciles all dolled up. Birdcages have 'become fantastic dreams of beauty and decorative art. No self respecting canary, linnet, or thrush can be expected to trill in any thing but a cage of rush or willow from the peasant realms of Europe, or a wire and lacquer cage from Chi na's shores. Japanese reed cages also are permissible but birdie simply must have one of these three decorative in fluences for surroundings. Mercy! Just fancy how plebian and inartistic nowadays would be that pro verbial bird in a gilded cage. Cages are positively not being worn gilded this season. f Of the lovely willow cages, some of which are fashioned by peasant hands in the Black Forest and yet others in Brittany and probably most over in New Jersey or Brooklyn, there are those in the natural toned willow, those stained grass green and those enameled white or pastel pink or blue. Even these willow cages feel the Chinese influence however, or at least their owners do, for milady hangs a Chinese jade bracelet to a short string of jade beads suspended from the mid dle of the cage for the songster to sway on in lieu of a prosaic swing. From the bottom of the cage she fastens with a thumbtack a Chinese tassel green and gold. The real Chinese cages are gorge ous in their scarlet green or black lacquer, ornate with gold. Round, ob long, square and octagonal they are, and some shaped like pagodas two or three stories high. In the finest cnges the water and seed dishes arc of carved jade or ivory, beads and tassels deck the outside and always there is the bracelet swing. As for the little fishes, red and gold, their crystal abodes are irides cent bubbles of antique Venetian glass of divers fantastic shapes. Some, high huge goblet shapes, others shallow bowls poised on slender stems, two handled Grecian urns of rain bow tinted glass and one, the quaint: est of all ,is a squat and sturdy crys tal elephant. Many of the round glass aquariums are raised on standard of carved or enameled wood and hand-painted in water lilies and deep sen flora, on the outside of the glass. Yet others simple and effective of lino are the oblong and square aquar iums, crystal clear. Prohibition Amendment Suggested. Salem, Ore., July 27. An amend ment to the present prohibition law whereby manufacturers desiring alco hol for use in their business may ob tain it in larger amounts than the law now permits is suggested by At torney-General Brown as the 'best way to solve the problem now con fronting Oregon manufacturers. If no one else should propose such an amendment, the attorney-general said that he would prepare an amend ment for consideration of the next legislature by which the legitimate manufacturer needing alcohol could obtain it in sufficient quantities aft er furnishing a satisfactory bond. The attorney-general believes that the law can be amended so as to give re lief to Oregon manufacturers and at the same time prevent importation of alcohol for illegitimate purposes. Validity of Decision Doubted The recent decision of Circuit Judge Morrow of Multnomah coun ty, holding that any manufacturer needing alcohol in wholesale quanti ties may import as much as is desired for manufacturing purposes, in the opinion of Attorney-General will not stand under test. "In any event." said Mr. "state officials will continue Brown Brown, to en- force the law as it is now on the books. As I understand Judge Mor row's decision, the San Francisco & Portland Steamship company is held liable for delivery of two barrels of spirits to. Wad hams & Co. Under the prohibition law, however, it is unlaw ful to receive more than the legally specified amount of intoxicating li quor, and the contention might be made that the receipt of more than the specified amount of liquor con stitutes a violation of the prohibition law. The legislature! had a right to pass a prohibition law prohibiting the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors in the state of Oregoon. It had an equal right to lim it the amount of intoxicating liquors that might be lawfully delivered to any person within the state. "The Webb-Kenyon law especial ly permits the law-making power of the state to enact legislation making criminal the receipt of alcohol as was sought by Wadhams & Co. Liquor Made Outlaw Intoxication liquor, in the aspect of being received, possessed or kept, or in some way used in a manner prohibited by the laws of the state to which it is to be, or is in fact, im-' ported, is an outlaw and divested of its interstate character and with drawn from interstate protection at the hands of the federal government. "In my mind, there is no doubt but that it is entirely lawful for the leg islature to prohibit or regulate the receipt and possession of intoxicat ing liquors by a citizen, whether the same be for the purpose of manufac turing extracts or for personal use. "I am confident that, if finally called upon to decide, the supreme curt will uphold the validity of sec tion 12 of Oregon's prohibition law." Constipation and Indigestion.
