Small supplies continue in the mutton and lamb di vision of the North Portland market and the general trend of the trade continues favorable. Full prices are being offered for stock that is not strictly No. 1 stuff. Firmer tone and higher prices were forced for swine at North' Portland with a smallec supply showing than last Monday. Trading started well with an advanced price, but this was oxpected at the closing of last week's trading. With the small runs all through the live stock market, the trend of the trade at North Portland was some what improved. General strength was shown in practically all lines and for hogs and cattle slightly better values were indicated. The school board met on Saturday night and transacted routine business. H. M. Allen was elected to teach the school the coming year, grades only, , the high school course being eliminated, making the employment of two teach ers unnecessary. Mr. Allen will move his family to Rieth by September 1st and make their home in the commun ity he serves as educator. The past few days have produced evidences of a renewed building ac tivity in our city, lumber and building material having arrived for several houses to be constructed in the Doris sub-division to the city of Rieth. Watch us grow! , Mrs. J. M. McShain and daughter returned from La Grande on Wednes day and went to Portland on No. 1 Thursday for an extended summer visit. Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Southard of Portland came in on No. 6 Sunday morning for a day's visit with home folks, at the Crawford boarding house. R. C. Doty, night caller, went to Portland on No. 17 Sunday for a few days' visit with friends at that point and on Heppner Junction. Yardmaster O. J. McKee, went to La Grande on the "Speed 'Em Up" special train from Pendleton on Sun day moring, partly on business but incidentally to take in the races. W. Bollons, superintendent from La Grande was in town Friday on a gen eral inspection of the terminal yards and shops. E.
