A petition from Pearl Stiles to re
pair damages done by last Sunday's
fire was referred to the manager for
further consideration. .
The date of hearing remonstances
on the one-block sewer project in the
Grand addition, was postponed until
August 16.
Flag Not Ordered.
Numerous citizens who have been .

sense wiflh the appearance of a toy , 1
flag from the city's flag staff during
the present summer are prone to meet
additional chagrin unless the commis
sion reconsider , the question of a
new flag was brought up last night
and while it was the sense that a suit
able one should be bougihit, it was
thought best to let it go over until
next year. The flag now used is about
8x10 inches. The general impression
is that the flagstaff would be better
off without the colors than to ihong
up a flag of such dimensions as the
present one is.

SOME FIGURES IN NEXT SUNDAY'S RACES
Engineer Jos. Fontaine will leave
this evening with Mrs. Fontaine for
Portland and the sea side. In order
to enjoy the benefit of a change in al
titude Mrs. Fontaine will probably
remain on the coast the principal part
of the summer.
J. A. Horan and Jerry Rusk have
returned from a tour which included
Pendleton, Walla Walla and Spokane.
The principal object was to boost the
Speed 'Em Up meet but while in Spo
kane tibe practice of all La Grandors-'T
was followed that of registering for
the land drawing.
District Attorney Eberhard leaves
this evening for the annual meeting
of the district attorneys of the state.
The object of the meeting is to lay
plans for some minor amendments to
the prohibition law and to considor
similar matters.
