Youth implies hopeful ness, energy and contempt . for the impossible. The purpose of a real live Y. M. C. A. is to promote character building. This general -purpose di vides itself into two fields, one to de vclop and the other to maintain. The Young Men's Christian association has done more throughout the civil ized world than any other single force in helping to bring about co-operation between Christian men of different de nominations and because it puts the emphasis on Christianity and leaves j tne question or sectarianism to the in Idividual, it is in a 'position to accom- pusn a broader and more, lor-reaching work thon any single denomination. A. held . their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening at the as sociation building. The meeting was well attended and was of a profitable and interesting nature; reports were given relating to the many phases of the association's work. The report of the general secretary was long and comprehensive; it covered the local situation in detail and the keynote thought expressed in the report was more business efficiency. It is the purpose of the general secretary to recommend to the various committees governing the activities of the as sociation that changes be made, that precedents already established be dis carded and the art of service and efficiency be the aim of every depart ment.
