Mrs. Johnson and daughter Inez of North Powder have been visiting with Mrs. Sullivan who lives on Adam3 avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson of South La Grande have gone to Portland to visit the Rose show. During their absence Mr. Atkinson's store will bo managed by Mr. Orvis. Dr. Myrtle Long left Sunaay for Portland to remain a week on a visit with her sister and to see the Bose show. Pat Foley took a party of five to Wallowa lake yesterday, making the round trip in easy time. They left at 5 in the morning, however, and reached home at 8 in the evening. Mrs. W. R. Hamilton has gone to Portland for a visit with relatives and incidentally to view the floral demonstrations. Mrs. Hamilton ex pects to remain in Portland several weeks. Danger of Serious Accidents at Flrea Cited by Ollicials. , To the Public: It is with some serious concern regarding the wel fare of the City of La Grande that the undersigned desire to make an ' em phatic protest against the wild, in considerate and wreckless display of speed made by the automobiles on tho occasion of every fire alarm in, this city. - . . It is almost impossible for tho Fire Department and the members who are compelled to make all necessary Hpeed in order to reach the fire to. makn decent headway along the stroets on account of the numerous machines and bicycles heading for the fire. It fa really miraculous that there are not a number of people killed on the occasion of every fire alarm in La Grande. The time has come. when . there should bo put a stop and a seri-. ous regulation to the speed of all ma, chines and vehicles attending fires. If this evil is not soon remedied, some movement should be immediately made in order that a strict regulation, be enforced.
