From Cove.
Cove, Ore., May 1. (Special) B.
E. Anderson is rapidly improving and
will probably be home in a few days.
Miss Dena Lund closed a successful
term of school at Shanghi last Friday.
A fine program was rendered in the
afternoon and the school room was
crowded with visitors.
Ed Meroney returned from a week's
visit with friends at Pendleton.
Earl Baker, while attempting to
carry a pair of doubletrees on a
horse was thrown from the horse and
badly bruised, while the ibruises were
-very sore andiinful they will not
prove serious.
Last Saturday afternoon the Ladies
Aid society gave a birthday party at
the home of Mrs. Dutfy in honor of
"Grandma" Kern. The afternoon was
pleasantly spent and dainty refresh
ments wera served.
Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Hess and Miss
Iva Hess of Telocaset, Ellis Hess of
North Powder and Miss Etta Brown of
Union were guests at the C. D. John
son home Sunday.
Miss Elizabeth Troy of Pleasant
Valley is visiting her sister, Mrs. A.
L. Becker.
Geo. Baker has been suffering with
neuralgia this week but is. improving
at the present time.
Mrs. L. Prillman, Mrs. Heady and
Mrs. Howater entertained the Ladies
Aid society at the latter's home last
Thursday.
Geo. Miller has just returned from
a business trip to Portland.
T. B. Johnson shipped a car of fat
hogs from here Saturday.
A Sunday School has been organized
in the Hardscrabble district. They
also have church services there.
Frank Fager and wife left today for
the Palmer logged-off lands where
they expect to make their future home.

lieving she was about to be deserted
by the father of her two children, de
cided to kill them before she took
poison, was on trial for murder be
fore a jury of married men in New
York City. Her counsel selected them,
demanded men not only with wives
tut children, because he believed they
would better understand the feelings
of a mother in her situation. They
freed her.
