In the capital of thn principality u mob assembles to protest against the war measures. Prince Rudolph is so nngcred at this outrage that in a par oxysm of rage his heart fails him and he dies. Karl then quiets the people, wid the war is averted. For reasons of state Karl has been with laughter.
