Portland, April 12. This is the last
day the 26 substations for registra
tion will be kept open. Dan Gregory,
chief clerk in the registration depart
ment, estimates that since these aux
iliary booths were opened, April 1,
5000 men and women have registered.
This total would bring the total regis.
tration at the court house and at the
substations to nearly 04,000.
To date 58,534 people have regis
tered in the court house. Of this num
ber 36,008 are men and 22,520 are
women. Divided into pnrties, the
registration is as follows: Republican,
26,655 men and 15,474 women; Demo
crat, 6,098 men and 5,057 women; In
dependent, 1.251 men and 785 women;
Prohibitionist, 389 men and 713 wom
en; Socialist, 422 men and 253 wom
en; and Progressive, 293 men and 244
women.

Delay Building- of Canadian Railroads

the reiterated contention that there is
plenty of -money in Western Canada,
came the announcement today wiat
several railways for which charters
have been obtained will not be built
this year on account of the wait-. The
time for the building of the Calgary-
Edmonton raihvav has been extended.
The Central Western railway, building
from Winnipeg to Edmonton, via
Yorkton, Saskatoon and Battlefoi-d,
will delay further construction.
