The J assessor and hi deputy will immed 1 iately beg-in preparation for the 1916 f assessments which will begin March 1st. Mr. Couch say his aim in tv work has been to equalize all assess ment and for the coming' year, with the co-operation of the tax payer, and from the fact of his better knowledge of the wo.-k, hopes to be able to ac complish still more along those lines and will, and is, anxious at all times that adjustment of assessments in his hands, be given due consideration and to hear any complaint from any taxpayer that thinks his property is not valued equal to that of other property. MANY CATTLE RECOVERED " Cattle and Horse Raisers Association Getting Good Results Bakor, Jan. 25. The fiscal year of of the Cattle and horse raisers' Asso ciation of Oregon, which closes with the current month, has been one of great success for the organization, which wus instituted by local stock men three years ago. In the recovery of stiaycattle a great success was re corded no less than 250 strays being reported to the association and 150 returned to their owners. Secretary Correll keeps a brand book .showing the brands of all mem bers. 'When word reaches him of stray cattle he looks up the brand, finds the owner, who in a majority of cases gets his stock back with lit tle or no cost. In this nnn rintoil alone the association offers protection to its members that not a single horse or cuttle raiser should overlook. YOU CAN ALWAYS DO BETTER AT 83 BIG BUSY! (Continued From Fage On) Aside from this the Norwegians ap- j saw "their chance' . and grabbed Hv pear to have been better business men than either Swedes or Danes. They grabbed it out of the other Scandina vian countries' hands. by an inadequate fuel supply. De velopment of the Spitzbergen coil mines has been begun with the new capital furnished by the belligerents on a large scale. N Spitsbergen, which seems in the United States like almost the last place on earth, is mentioned in Christ iania as if it were no more remote than Alaska seems to Seattle. The coal mined there is declared to be the best quality bituminous and with it the Norwegians speak of making their country, in the near future,, one of the biggest manufacturing nations of the world. Has the Norwegian, workingman received a fair share of the war pro fits? No, Norwegians generally de clare that the belligerents' money has gone into few hands. Still, thev say their country's workers are bet ter paid than those of any other country in Europe. Thev are hone-! ful that a bctvpr adjustment be-j'J tween the classes is not far distant, j i A concrete reason wny Sweden and Denmark have not gained as much from the war as has Norway unaues- tionably lies in the fact that Norway possessed the one thine needed to take advantage of the situation, shins and that Sweden and Denmark did not.
