The A. 0. Nash Electric Co. has developed, but she is the young est and one of the very first women in France to be given the War Cross. Beginning a yeur ago last October, when the Germans first occupied Loos, she succeeded in so winning the re spect of the Germans as to keep im mune from molestation or disturb ance her aged father who was slowly dying of chagrin over1 France's troubles. When the father died, the Germans themselves gave ' Mile. Moreau the wood out of which she fashioned a coffin, though in accept ing it she gave them to understand that nothing could ever diminish her French enmity towards them. Almost immediately afterwrd came rumors of the impending attack by the English. This attack began Sep tember 25. With the first roar of the three day's artillery bombardment preceding the infantry attack Mille. Moreau posted herself in the garret of her three-story home to watch the battle. For three days she lay here, face downward, without food, watching. Shells burst about the house. Neigh boring walls and roofs crashed down, but Mille. Moreau's home was not touched. Finally came the moment for the in fantry assault. The kilted Highland ers fought into the streets of Loos, while Mille. Monreau -dragged their wounded into her home and cared for them. ' . ' In the midst of this task she dis covered that five Germans who had taken refuge in a cave were firing on the advancing English and could not be dislodged. Seizing a revolver from the hand of a dead Englishman and a grenade from another she charged. The hurled grenade killed three. The two remaining, with fixed bayonets, charged. Calmly she stood, revolver posed, until the shining blades were almost at her breast, then shot both i men. I As the shot echoes die daway, the main hody of the Scotch came in sign ing "God Save the King." Moreau let them finish, then leaping before the troops, began the "Marseillaise." She had not finished the first verse before every Scotchman had joined her. , . Use our Want Ad column. Front Laced ' ) $3.50 and up j j PaulineLederle ! Sommer Hotel Bldg.
