The remains were interred December 9th. . The sly old coyote which lias evad ed hounds and hunters of the Willow creek section and south end of Pump kin Ridge for the past three years, has fallen at last, having met his Wat erloo Tuesday morning. The pack of hounds belonging to Oliver Kerr and lerry Iuttle performed the task. Carl Em, the two and a half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hawk ins, died suddenly at the family home in this city at 12:00 M. Sunday night. Death was the result of diphtheria. The remains were interred Monday forenoon in the family burial plot in the City cemetery, J. M. Churchill, for several years a. resident of Elgin and veteran of the Civil war, was found dead in his chick en house shortly after noon yesterday by his son Charley. Not long after starting the dogs jumped the bobsat and succeeded in treeing the varmint which was soon killed with a rifle. I Mrs. A. H. Parsons and daughter ! Mrs. Sig Cline has been in La Grande recently taking treatment for her eyes. Operator-Mudge has returned to his station at the line Junction and Oper ator Bullis left this weeic for another position. Mrs. Florence Dobbin and daughter Margaret expect to go to Portland about the 28th to remain for a couple of months. Cashier C. W. Gussie Lewin arrived , Saturday last from San Francisco and will have charge of the Union Drug store of this place until further notice. Tom Johnson, of Lower Cove, re turned from Portland Wednesday. He attended the fat stock show and brought back some prizes for his ex hibits of hogs. , I George Baxter is training a bunch of M, I, A, boys at basket ball, and hi expects to meet some of the best play ers of this section during the season. They are practicing at the - Smith warehouse hall. x W. T. Wright last week presented to the public schools of Union the fine cabinets of minerals that have for a long time been in the First National Bank building. . The cabinets holding the minerals were purchased by the school district. . ' Kenneth McCormick, of La Grande, deputy county clerk, was in the city over Sunday, visiting Mr. and Mis. F. A. Bidwell.
