CHEFS IS Baking Powder , Those wKo have had cakes ruined by jarring the stove, slamming the oven door or a heavy footstep, may have wondered how the dining car chef can turn out such marvelous biscuits, hot breads and pastry when his oven is being incessantly jarred and jolted and shaken by the motion of the train. To get pastry to raise and stay raised under these con ditions, a baking powder must be used that continues to give off its leavening gas Mat $ustain$ the raise until the dough is baked through. (, One Horse to Five People (Farm and Fireside.) : ';. .. On January 1, 1915, people were five times as numerous in the United States as horses; and horses -were Ave times as numerous as mules. Texas had over twice as many mules (763, 000) as Missouri, its closest competi tor. Texas also led in cattle (5,121, 000,) having nearly twice as many as Iowa. Iowa had twice as many swine (8,720,000) as Illinois, its closest com petitor. Montana and Wyoming are the two greatest sheep states, each having about 4,400,000 head. New Mexico and Ohio come next, with about 3,300,000 apiece. Rhode Island has 23,000 milch cows and Nevada 24,000. Wisconsin has the most, 1,626,000. Sewer Still in Water. Still .working lit a watery ditch, the sewer diggers are making slow progress, says the Enterprise Chief tain. They are almost . out of the Bank, pasture, but have : probably 500 feet more of the porous, wet soil ahead of them before they get into the more promising district. - In the present stretch of the work it is neces sary to crib the sides of the trench, making continuous walls of planks. . Hard gravel underlies the top layer of rich black soil, and digging this out is tedious work, particularly When- a small stream of : water is running along the bottom. . . .-.! The sewer pipe has been distrib uted along the streets . for several blocks beyond where the men are working, and it looks as if the town was really going to have sewers be fore long, i '' 1 5S- Dining Car Chefs have found a baking powdcrexactly suited to their needs in K C and you will find it lust as well suited to your requirements.
