Thursday April 1, Will Keown left
for Omaha, ftebraska. His brother

carloads of horses which L. M. Marks'
of South Omaha has been buying for
cavalry purposes in tho armies of the
Allies. Alter this trip the Keown
boys will visit for two or . three
months with their grandparents
whose home is near Omaha.
Will Bell arrived in Imbler this
morning, home from an extended
visit in Idaho.
Donal Allphin boarded the train
enroute to Lovell, Wyoming, where
he will make his future home and
enter the high school next year. Don
al was a freshman in the Imbler high

The M. E. Sunday school is mak
ing preparation for an Easter pro
gram Sunday evening.
Haskell Andrews of near Elgin,
has been visiting his parents. Mr. and

FIRE ASSOHI'S SCOPE RIG
Following is the annual report read
by the secretary of the Union-Wallowa
Counties Fire association, at the
annnual meeting of the organization
in this city a few days ago, it setting
out the extensive scope of the work
done by the association, in detail:
. La Grande, Oregon. March 30. At
the present' time this association has
113 members in good standing who
represent an ownership of 317,404
acres. Ihe assessment of lc per acre
for timbered land and l-2c per acre
for cut over or brush land Was suf
ficient to take care of all the' fire
fighting expenses during the past sea
son, the hre patrol force consisted of
two Supervising Wardens, five as
sociation patrolmen, and two federal
patrolmen. These men effectively
patroled all association property dur
ing the past season. :
In Union County, five miles of old
trail located in the Catherine Creek
district were cleared of logs and made
passable, so that the patrolman could
get to his various look-out points
more readily. A fire break two miles
in length was constructed in the Mt.
Emily district, which consisted - of
clearing out an old road. This work

We had 64 fires in tho. districts
patroled by this association. The
causes of these fires wer as follows:
Logging engines, 6; lightning, 12;
O.-W. R. & N. right-of-woy, 12; un
known, 8; Carelessness of campers,

I These fires burned over 9,012 acres
and destroyed and damaged 6,031,000

outside of our regular patrolmen,
amounted to $1558.41.

mills, manufactured and placed on the
market, it would be worth more than
$100,000.00, and the further fact that

this timber into lumber, the com
munity will realize what a loss by
such a fire is to the county or to the
community as well as to the man
vho does the logging in the woods or
works in the mills. It is self evident
that it is very necessary for all to be
very careful in setting forest fires.
It will also be noted in the fore
going report that out of the 64 fires
et in 1914, 18 of these were from care
lessness by campers and 8 of them
were from unknown sources, which
probably were caused by the same
carelessness. - Everyone likes to have
a vacation and most people' like to
go fishing and hunting, but if every
party who starts for an outing in the
mountains would make one resolution
before starting to put out a match
before throwing it down after light
